Gothic cabinet craft furniture in Kips Bay...high end middle of the road if there can be such a thing

It is funny, I have been past this place a lot and have mixed feelings about what I can see through the shop windows..

Not surprised the reviews are mixed too. I have known people who got stuff on sale here, though, who were very happy indeed..

Recently moved and needed a brand new bed frame and mattress. Spent WEEKS scouring the usual places--West Elm, Crate and Barrel, Ikea, and even the mom and pop shops in Chinatown. I was very specific in what I wanted--100% wood bed, dark finishings, with drawers underneath. Nobody seemed to have what I wanted and finally someone mentioned I should check out this place and so glad I did!! I love my bed, I got the platform bed, 4 drawers on metal tracks, queen size, birch wood, dark brown finishing. For the headboard, you can pick whatever you want and I picked one that seemed the most contemporary. It was important to me to have drawers for more storage and the ones I saw in other places were not great quality--shallow and thin. All in all I paid about $850, incl. tax and shipping fee. You also have to be an additional $50 for the insurance letter (if you need to produce it to your co-op). Yes that seems like a lot but I think it's because shipping was so low anyway (like $40) and the woman said the insurance certificate lasts a year if you buy another item from them.

Service wise, my bed came about 4 weeks later. Everything is built and made somewhere in Queens I think. A guy showed up with my bed in two pieces, drilled the pieces in so it fit, and everything was done in less than 10 minutes. I did notice a few areas of my frame were chipped probably from delivery but honestly I was so happy to have the bed I wanted I didn't care, plus don't really notice it all that much.

All in all a great quality bed for the price (most all wood beds I saw were well above a grand and didn't have drawers), and it's simple, clean lines with roomy drawers!!

GARBAGE. I bought a bed with drawers underneath a few months ago and I can't wait to move so I can put it out on the curb.

The drawers do not glide smoothly and do not close flush to cabinet. They are visibly crooked.

The "Premium Finish" that I paid extra $$$ for is sloppy and missing in spots.
The veneer has chipped on the edges of the drawers.

I have saw-dust all over my clothes.

I called for repairs and they gave me a date a month away. On repair day, nothing. They have a separate phone number for repairs and when I finally got someone on the phone they said "No, today is the day for you to SCHEDULE the repairs." When I said that was not what I was told, she replied  "No, nobody told you that." She was completely rude and called me a liar.

Never did get the repairs, IMHO its really not worth the aggravation or repairing, its complete junk. Ikea is better quality for a lot less money.

I knew the bed was a piece of crap as I watched it being put together. So cheesy, only the visible pieces are actual wood. I noticed that the track was bent and the delivery guy said they are all like and it will "bend into place," it never did.

GCC only survives by taking advantage of people who are desperate for storage space in New York City. I should have just bought some plastic drawers from Target, it would be better investment than a bed from Gothic Cabinet.

Would you buy a futon without sitting on it first?  If you would, I'd classify you as a one percenter.  You know the type.  You sky dive and bravely buy tickets to each new M. Night Shyamalan movie.

Me, like most ninety-nine percenters, I want my butt to know what it's getting into.

This is a nice, big store, but nothing I liked on the website was actually on display.  Not one futon.  The salesperson even called their other location and they didn't have any, either.  I like their stuff, and I might end up ordering from them, but I refuse to watch The Last Airbender.

I'll admit it. When I first saw Gothic Cabinet Craft, I had to do a double take. I kept picturing dark, black, brooding furniture but what I was seeing was conservative pieces of well made wooden furniture. I finally decided to visit Gothic after peering over the website. It looked like it was worth checking out.

You name it, they got it. You can pretty much furnish your apartment here. From desks to tables, from barstools to couches, mattresses and bunk beds to entertainment centers and bookcases. In every type of wood and varnish, style and price point, Gothic has a very fair and decent selection of furniture. I was looking for a tv stand, desk and mattresses. I would have loved to get everything in one place but I don't think Gothic quite fits my style. Also, the beds are pretty crappy (well all except one or two) but at least they are affordable. Hey, if you're on a budget, these beds will do for one or two years. But I'm in it for the long run so I'll be looking for something a little more durable and comfortable. If my decor calls for functionality, I might go back to Gothic but for now I'll be holding out for something with a little more style. It's worth checking out though and I'm pretty sure I'll be going back just because I'm that kind of shopper.

For my purposes, Gothic Cabinet Craft in Murray Hill was perfect.  I was in search of reasonably priced, already assembled furniture in styles that I would be happy looking at when I move on after my current apt (long-term sublease.)  I got two bar stools and a night stand that I always receive compliments on.  I was very impressed with the next-day delivery and good customer service I received.  I don't need anymore furniture at this time, but I have recommended the store to a handful of other people.

The furniture is ok. Decent price, decent quality. But the customer service needs some improvement. Telling me to go buy the stain in home depot and do it myself is not helpful when I ask you if there's a less expensive version of a bed in the store.  (yea I mean you guy with dreads and bandanna). Doing with a "you're asking me a dumb question and I'm not bothering to take you seriously" attitude is even less helpful.
