Wagwear

This looked like another one of those new places that may also be too small for any Yelp reviews besides being too new..let's hope we find something

Oh, there are reviews all right (mostly very favorable)

This is one of the most upscale pet boutique places you are going to find

I'd seen Wagwear clothing before -- they distribute their line to many dog stores on both coasts -- but it was a pleasant experience to walk into their storefront on the east side (think preppy boutique). The staff and owner are super friendly and tolerant of my energetic dog who likes to think she's small enough to fit into beds and tents that are much too small for her.

I picked up a nice sweater for my dog, Miya, so she could stay warm in cold NYC weather. Yes, it's pricey, but on par with most nicely designed dog accessories.

I bought my dog Corky a little Wagwear jacket here a few years ago; we were walking by here yesterday and I thought we'd stop in. I promised Corky that we wouldn't try anything on.

The man in the store, Jimmy, told me that they manufacture in Long Island City and distribute worldwide; they love 'em in Japan. I'm a fan of any business that manages to stay in the city and even manufacture here. I've seen their dog clothes and leashes a lot--the "flag" raincoat is popular with a lot of dogs I know--but always like stopping into this boutique.

Maybe it's that I always hand-wash my dog's stuff, but I always find their clothes to be sturdy enough.

When does this place go from egg mcmuffin to burger?  I tried to go here once and the store wasn't open when it supposed to be.  I called later and the owner/employee(?? ) said "oh, yeah, I was a little late that day."

So getting a sense of a trend I decided to call before I went the next time.  I called a few times over the course of 3 hours (after the posted opening time) and the store still wasn't open.  I tried again the next day and 90 minutes in I finally got an answer.

Now once you get down there, I don't know who this chick was who "helped" me, but really, she was kind of unpleasant.  I don't know if the store is a sole proprietorship or if this was just an employee but when there's no one else in your shop and a customer comes in, try not to look so bothered.  Facebook will be there when I leave; you can get back to it in mere moments.

Also, if I have my hands full with my dog and like 3 collars to try on, don't make me put merchandise back.  That's your job.

With that, the stuff in Wagwear is nice, but very expensive.  A collar/leash or harness/leash set can run about $70.  I love my dog, but I also have a threshold and between the agitated customer service and the price, this was it.

If you know your dog's size and you desperately want some wagwear merchandise, do yourself a favor and just use the website.

Cute product but not good quality.
Quality is in inferior relative to the high prices.  This applies particularly to the beds, tents, blankets made out of extremely lightweight fabrics that tear easily and do not stand up to machine washing :(

Love their stuff.  After 8.5 years of the same harness and leash it was time for a new set of Wagwear.  Was happy that I could now go to their store.  Bought an updated version.  Part of the reason I love it is that the beige just disappears on my dog's fur.  The owner was super nice.  I felt bad as she had to take her dogs outside so that me and my dog could go in.  She said her one dog is having issues right now.  Anyway....great stuff - chic dog accessories.

Walked over after viewing nauseating clothing of Petco....my dog may be female but she is not wearing pink! I was immediately soothed by the beautiful quality and colors of the coats and sweaters. The gentlemen helping me was patient and helpful. I got an awesome reflective coat with a removable insert for warmer weather. It wasn't cheap, but I have no problem spending money on quality. My dog isn't going to have a million outfits: just a few functional lovely pieces. Wagwear is the place if that's what you're looking for!

Came across the NY Times Magazine gifts for pets spread a few weeks before the holidays and saw their beautiful hand-stitched leather Bone Toggle Collar made in England and knew my baby just had to have it! It arrived quickly and it is so beautiful! Will visit the store on my next visit to NYC.
