First time in New York and I was already aware of how pricey hotels and accommodations could be around the area. Ultimately I picked this place simply because of price. Their website already had a competitive price, but lurking around I found even better through a third party. It was the cheapest I found right next to Central Park. So I thought that should be good.

The only transportation I used even from the airport was public transportation. Thankfully there is a metro station RIGHT by the hotel. This is a major plus for those planning to use the train/subway the entire trip and have plenty of luggage.

This location is also around the corner from a DR (Duane Reade). It's like a Rite Aid, Walgreens, all purpose store that is OPEN 24 Hours.

As for the hotel itself, the lobby gives a good first impression. They usually have security up front so you feel safe, and a "bell boy" who does all purpose things. The lobby has plenty of space to chill and there is WIFI there in case you want to be away from your room but still want to be online.

Now as for the room that is another story. I just got the pretty standard room. It IS actually ROOMY by New York standard sin this part of town, for this type of price. All others I've read/saw in pics are much smaller. THERE IS NO ICE MACHINE. But THERE IS A COFFEE MAKER, and THERE IS AN ICE MACHINE BUT ALL THE WAY ON THE 11TH FLOOR. So YES, you will have to go all the way up there and back to your room for ice. The room itself is blah, blah as in no style. Just pretty standard old school typical cheap hotel decor. There is AC--the ones that are by the window, but it works, and works well. There is a desk for you to work on. A security safe in the other closet. The BATHROOM itself is more up to date then the rest of the room. The shower head could be stronger, but it isn't the weakest I've seen. It is by the way a shower/tub combo. So as for the room again, the TV is OLD SCHOOL TUBE TV. 4:3 standard definition square size black heavy 90s early 00s TV. BUT if this is your first time in NYC and exploring, WHO CARES ABOUT THE TV??! If this is a major complaint for you, stay home or spend more on a hotel that will have a nice new flat screen which most of the time don't even display HD signal (It's like buying a Ferrari and keeping it in 1st gear).

The bed was ok. I couldn't help but feel a bit dirty sleeping in it. I don't know why, just the atmosphere of the room and hallway of the hotel.

When you go to the upper floor, you'll notice their hallway is much nicer, as if it was updated, so I'm assuming the rooms were too, so I guess if a "nicer" room is important to you, pay more and ask them to put you up there.

The WIFI/INTERNET I am glad to say works well. No complaints and strong signal

Would I recommend this place? Sure why not, just dont expect chic and fancy because you WONT BE PAYING THAT TYPE OF PRICE. Also only if you plan on taking the subway or driving.

I stayed here years ago (2008) and really enjoyed the experience.  I liked the old school feel of the lobby, the modern feel of the rooms, the very convenient location/safe location, good customer service, cheap prices (booked it day off for under $100/night on a weekend) and the cleanliness of it all.  I liked it so much that I recommended it to my sister and friend to stay at a few years thereafter (2010).

Customer service had definitely declined, as in we caught someone at the end of their shift who had no desire of helping anyone new, and purposefully stretched out our wait so that the new shift person could handle it.  They were not that much more pleasant to deal with, though the issue was resolved.  Still, seriously uncool.  The prices had gone up slightly, but this will happen.

I was trying to book a room this year (2013) for a Saturday evening in July.  Prices have gone up much more, though, again, this is NYC, and this is to be expected, particularly during busy summer tourist season.  So I figured I'd call their reservation line and see if I could be put on a wait list in case a room opened up.

When I informed the phone rep that I was only looking to check in for one night, she said (and this is basically verbatim), "Oh...well, there's a 2-night minimal reservation for that weekend...so you can stay Friday and Saturday...but you can't have just Saturday."

    I paused.

Upon asking why this policy was in place, she was actually honest in replying, "Well that weekend is selling out really good {yes...that is the grammar she used} that weekend...so we're not giving up rooms for just one night.  Now you can..."

No clue what came next as my response over her rambling was, "You must be out of your mind.  No need to continue.  Thank you very much.  Have a nice weekend.." as I hung up on her.

Like...seriously??  You're a glorified Days Inn, y'all!  I book travel for Executives of one of the world's leading international investment firms.  I find ways to get them in to 5-star internationally-acclaimed resorts during holiday and conference weekends and have NEVER, EVER come across this insulting policy.  You have got to be out of your damned minds.

That being said, on top of the fact that I never once had consistent internet service during the 3-day stay I had with them back when, I'd be hard pressed at this point to stay with them, let alone recommend them to anyone I like, unless they offered a rate that was unbeatable by far.

    Methinks NOT.

Even with the 10% discount, a substantial improvement would have to be made in many areas for me to want to stay here again.  I know New York is infamous for its overpriced and miniature hotel room availabilities, but for real? $200/night should definitely deserve a better room/service than what we got, which was less than optimal motel status.

First, the room size itself was expected: cramped.  Add the rollaway bed and we almost had a wall-to-wall three person bed and no room for luggage.  Everything was setup appropriately....BUT....The room looked dirty like it hadn't been vacuumed or dusted or swept in a month.  Thank goodness for plastic tiling that's easy to clean, because the bathroom was the cleanest part of the room.

Next, service.  Don't let me get started on service.  We called for extra towels on our first day since we had an extra person in the room with us.  They came 24 hours and 3 phone calls later. In addition, we don't usually need room cleaning every single day of our stay, so we left the "Do Not Disturb" sign on outside most days.  However, the one day we did request room cleaning service, they swapped the towels and made the bed. That's all.  They didn't replace our hand towels, shampoo/conditioner....nada.

Elevator? FORGET IT.  There are 2 sets, and the one by the mailboxes is faster since both are actually working.  However, I've recommend taking the stairs if at all possible.  On our checkout day, we waited 30 minutes for an available elevator that could fit even one person with luggage. Sad.

The highlights of our stay? The bellhop, he was awesome and receptive.  The receptionist checking us out at the end of our stay.  The view of the 96th street corner bakery from our open window. No bugs. Well, actually, make that 3 bed bug bites, no visible bugs.

This place is really more like a motel. I stayed here for 3 nights. When I first came in, I asked if I could check in early, since they said over the phone that we could if there were rooms open. But when we asked after we walked in, the cranky bellman immediately yelled at us and said we couldn't because 'all the rooms were full' without even checking. Uh, what?! But thankfully as we were about to leave, the receptionist came back to her desk and asked if we needed more help. We told her the situation, she CHECKED what was available, and told us there was space! So she kindly gave us a room on the 2nd floor.

But holy moly. I've stayed in a few motels in the past and this place has got to be the worst by far. The hallway stinks like old, ethnic food.  The walls are thin. The carpet is falling apart and dirty. The narrow hallways are a complete maze. I've been to plenty of frat houses and this place has got to be the dumpiest. I braced myself when I put my key card in the door (which by the way took at least 5 tries to work). And the room was exactly what I expected. It was so stinky and just plain gross I was scared to touch anything. We couldn't have been there for more than 2 minutes when we called the lobby to switch rooms. They obliged but our room wouldn't be available for another few hours.

We followed the advice of other reviewers who said the rooms above the 10 floor were refurbished and requested that. We ended up getting a room on the 10th floor which wasn't nearly as bad as our first room. But for over $100/night for one bedroom, its not what it should be.

They have a doorman but they usually just stand outside and stare at you as you come in.  Out of the three days I was there, they opened the door for me once.

I wish I had read the reviews here before getting in bed. Day after my first night here, my mom got multiple bed bug bites on her foot. And I have bed bug bites on my shoulder. All I'm saying is that it was cold during my stay here and there was no other time when her feet and my shoulder were exposed other than in bed. So check your mattresses people!

Only pro is that the bathroom and shower is pretty decent.

Just got back from a weekend trip to NYC with a friend. We got a two bed room for $110/night via Priceline. Right there - if you have a roof and bed for that price in New York - you really have no right to complain.

That being said, it is a great Upper West Side location, right near the subway. The place is older and obviously has its quirks, but the hotel is perfectly adequate!

If there was one big issue, I would say it is the slow, almost non-existent elevators, especially if you are on say the 9th floor like we were ...

This place deserves more credit.  It's really a 3-star establishment, not a 2-star motel. The comfy bed, clean room, modern bathroom and helpful staff really made my stay. The area is safe and family-friendly. Location is great: a block from the subway station with plenty of food/drinks nearby, and 24-hour drugstore right underneath. Free wifi!

Downsides: Elevator was soooo slow. I was staying on the PH/13th floor and I dreaded going downstairs for any reason once I reached my room.  Water in the shower took forever to warm up. Overall I was a happy camper here during the Hurricane Sandy aftermath. I would recommend this as a budget lodging option if you want to stay out of the touristy areas. For similar prices, you can stay at Club Quarter in FiDi or Doubletree on Stone St for a slightly more upscale accommodation.

I stayed here this summer, from August 29th until August 31st, in room 702 on the seventh floor. I'd booked the room through Priceline's "Express Deals", which meant that I got a discounted rate ($80/night, I think) but didn't know the hotel's name until after I paid. I regretted that decision immediately after I began reading the reviews on here which warned of everything from dirt to mold to bed bugs. I spent the next few months dreading my impending stay, and on the day that I finally checked-in I tore the room apart in search of bed bugs, which meant taking the bed sheets off, overturning the mattress, removing the headboard, etc. Happily I found nothing, and my stay ended up being quite pleasant.

The room was small with meager features (including a CRT television with only a handful of channels), the pillows were laughably uncomfortable (super hard), the decor and general cleanliness were unimpressive (not unclean, but old and shabby), and the sounds of the remodeling (which apparently had not yet reached the seventh floor) could be heard each morning. But, the bathroom was clean (with a nice adjustable shower head), the staff was helpful (the lobby is nice), and the location was ideal for me (the 96th street subway station (1, 2, 3 trains) is a two minute walk away from the hotel). I didn't find the elevators to be as slow as others have mentioned, although they were very small.

Overall I was satisfied. It's not a particularly nice hotel but it's not bad either, and for less than $100 a night in the Upper West Side it's absolutely adequate. I wouldn't pay more than that, and I'd always be sure to check for bed bugs upon arrival, but if you find yourself with a cheap reservation here thanks to Priceline you should be optimistic.

    Nice quiet hotel.
    It seemed to be clean.
It is what I would expect from an older New York Hotel.
Not an Ideal location for sight seeing, but a good place to lay your head.

Actually not bad at all. The room was clean and recently renovated with a comfortable bed. Free WiFi. And the price around 100$ per night you cannot beat in Manhattan.
