I am going there for restorative yoga right now and hope eventually to get into an intro-med. class.
I go to the site on East Eleventh Street between Broadway and University Place.
The hour long session seems just right to me...the instructors I have had have all been extremely friendly and helpful and the only thing that threw me a curve was today ( my sessions are pre-paid) I was suddenly asked for two dollars for use of a mat ( yes, some people do bring their own).
I think the ambiance of this place is just fine, but then I do not expect a Taj Mahal experience like so many people in Manhattan do...
But I will print a bunch of reviews from Yelp so you can see what I mean about how different people will size up a place like this so completely differently (probably-- I have not looked at the Yelp reviews yet, just going on past experience when I say this)....(Well, what do you know, no real sour apples here that I could see...good going, Ishta Yoga!)

I have been coming here on and off for about 4 years. I really like the teachers and the space.
I live and work in Brooklyn, but when I feel especially unbalanced I always make the special trip to ISHTA. I really like the emphasis the teachers here place on alignment and balance.
I end up working very hard even in the most basic of asanas because the goal of the practice is to find and maintain proper alignment while creating an inner harmony.
ISHTA has many things to offer, even to those who like a more vigorous workout. -

I liked this studio better than the one on the upper east side, although that one is closer to me. Bigger space, 2 bathrooms, and they sell apparel in the front. So tempting.
The instructors here are amazing and so accessible. They do hands on adjustments unless you don't want them to. There are blocks, straps, blankets, bolsters, big pillows.
I always leave class with a more balanced mind. -

I have been student of Ishta for two years now and I have to say that this is one of the best yoga studios in Manhattan. I've taken classes with different instructors and I've never experienced anyone who was not a great instructor, inspired and passionate about bringing Yoga to others. The location might be a bit dark sometimes and smelly, but hey, welcome to New York City :-)) The staff and owners really make the best of it and if you are all into Yoga it doesn't matter where you are at the moment and what surrounds you, what matters is what inside you and how good is the instructor. Highly recommend this place. -

I love practicing at ISHTA. The classes are always great (some challenging, some less so), the teachers are helpful, and the space is great.
I originally started coming here because I had a Groupon for one-month unlimited yoga. I liked it so much that I bought a yearly pass. My favorite classes are Tuesday night Intermediate with Peter, and the 7:15am classes on Tuesday and Thursday with Nancy. I also have attended some of Marcos' classes and although they're challenging, he's a pretty good teacher and you'll definitely get a good workout. Sometimes classes can get crowded (especially the Hour of Power classes), but they usually find a way to fit everybody in.
Overall, the studio has a good vibe, great teachers, and a variety of classes for every level and schedule. -

I like this studio because of the class room size and the small details, like using a really lovely scent for their rentable mats, offering tea, and having available and clean showers. It never feels like a rush coming in or going out. It's also great to catch a community class- a great deal with informed and seasoned instructors. -

Cathy Cathy Cathy! I am a Yoga newbie and initially started on the Yoga basics classes. ISHTA really is a fantastic class and I really lucked out going to Cathy's class as my first class. Cathy is great at guiding you through the physical, biological and spiritual aspects of yoga. I've recently moved on to the 'Open' classes and there too, Cathy's guidance and teachings are fantastic. I honestly feel calm, centred, positive and liberated after attending class. Cannot recommend enough! Dhiren -

When I went here I initially rated it according to all of the 7:15am classes. Which I found to be too slow for me. But I went back and took some of the afternoon and evening classes and they are really good! Also, this place is great for people who have more of an advanced Yoga practice since they are not just about cardio and vinyasa. And also the teachers are not about their ego's and don't mind it if you make your own modifications in class. They trust that you understand your own practice. I also like that many of the teachers will ask you in the beginning of class if you mind having hands on adjustments.
Jessica's Flow and Restore is still one of my favorite classes here! Mona's Yoga Nidra is pretty amazing as well. The staff at both locations are really friendly and nice.
Alan's meditation classes are mind blowing. And great even for beginners.
