Oh yes, Canal Street is still pretty funky and a lot of fun...people who crack down on fake designer goods have their quibbles with it of course..
I particularly know Pearl Paint as an art supply store that has never failed me over the years..
Otherwise, Canal Street as I said is pretty much the same as ever...here are some typical views, starting with looking East from Broadway towards the Confucius Towers..
It of course still has all sorts of specialty shops, like this lighting place...
Oh, right, watch out when you are getting on the subway around Broadway and to the East...make sure you are getting the right entrance to the right train, and if you have to buy a Metrocard, make sure you don't go into a station such as this one that has no booth to sell them...
Finally, the station I took down to Canal Street DID have an elevator and was wheelchair accessible...I did not remember that...guess you have to check the MTA website to find out just which stations are wheelchair-friendly
