(NEWSER) – Carly Simon has finally revealed the subject of "You're So Vain" ... sort of. "I have confirmed that the second verse is Warren [Beatty]," Simon, now 70, tells People in an interview to promote the memoir she's releasing later this month. When asked whether Beatty knows the second verse of the 1972 song is about him, Simon only jokes, "Warren thinks the whole thing is about him!" It's actually about three different men, she says, and she's not planning on naming the other two subjects "until they know it's about them." Simon has been romantically linked to Mick Jagger, Kris Kristofferson, Jack Nicholson, Cat Stevens, and James Taylor (the last of whom she was actually married to), among others.
"Probably, if we were sitting over at dinner and I said: 'Remember that time you walked into the party and...'" Simon continues. "I don't know if I'll do it. I never thought I would admit that it was more than one person!" For anyone who doesn't have the song memorized, the Beatty-centric verse goes: "You had me several years ago, when I was still quite naive / Well you said that we made such a pretty pair, and that you would never leave / But you gave away the things you loved, and one of them was me / I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee..."
