Escape

I hear from a lot of first responders on the edge of committing suicide. I also hear from their families after they've made that decision to end their life. This is what I've learned...

On two occasions from different paramedics working on opposite sides of the world I've been told they wish for the "sweet life of suicide". I've also been told by several first responders that they don't want to die but suicide seems like the only escape. I can't imagine that torment. I know many people feel suicide is a cowardly decision, in this case I don't know. Many feel they don't wan't to die but feel there is no other way. The families I've heard from feel it wasn't a decision at all.

Do you feel like the paramedic in this image? Surrounded by demons, smothering you, dragging you down to the point you just want out? PTSD ISN'T SOMETHING WE HAVE, IT'S SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS TO US. There is a way out, there is help out of what seems to be an inescapable place. There's a beautiful world outside what you feel. Get help, talk to someone who specializes in mental health for first responders. Be one of the ones that escape to a better life and not one of the ones who chooses the "sweet life of suicide"

    • Erica Smith No one wants to die. They want to pain to die. Sometimes the pain never seems like it's going to end, and just when you think it does...it says nope I'm not done wth you yet. And the vicious cycle continues. So no suicide isn't selfish. However blaming those who are so pained is. Do you have any clue how much pain someone has to be in to put a gun to their head or a razor to their wrist?!.....now who's selfish

    • Jackie Johnston Spoo I love your work.. I just don't understand suicide especially by us. We see what suicide does to the ones left behind. I have heard one too many times the horrible moaning cry of family when one of the people they love has taken their own life. I can't imagine doing that to my family. Please seek help if this enters your mind. Please do not put your families thru what we have seen others go thru.
