A Brooklyn grandmother depicted in a video being dragged out of her apartment half naked and handcuffed in the hallway has filed a federal lawsuit against the city and the NYPD cops involved in the disturbing confrontation.
Denise Stewart, 49, was clad only in a towel and underwear when cops banged on her apartment doorway at 11:45 p.m., investigating a 911 call about someone having thrown a bottle out a window of the building on Kings Highway.
Stewart was dragged out of the doorway by cops, who in the process of arresting her, removed the towel, leaving her naked from the waist up, according to the suit filed Thursday in Brooklyn Federal Court.
"What they did to her is an affront to all women, especially women of color," said lawyer Amy Rameau who represents Stewart, her three adult children and a daughter who is a minor in the civil rights suit.
Rameau also represents Stewart on misdemeanor charges – including assault for biting a cop on the hand – which are still pending in Brooklyn Criminal Court in connection with the July 2014 incident.
Stewart's son and two daughters were also arrested.
"They made up a story that (Denise) pulled off her clothes and said, 'I'll fight you all,'" Rameau said. "She's suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and diabetes, and she's incapable of fighting them."
The NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau opened an investigation after the Daily News broke the story on the newspaper's web site.
The cops were subsequently cleared of any wrongdoing, Rameau said.

Denise Stewart stood bare-breasted in the hallway for more than two minutes.
A spokesman for the city Law Department said, “We'll review the complaint.”
Cops claimed that when they went into the building they came upon a domestic disturbance in Stewart's apartment.
Stewart's 12-year-old daughter allegedly told the cops that her mother had struck her because she broke curfew, a source said.
Rameau said that story is bogus, too, and pointed out that the city Administration for Children's Services returned the girl to the household the next day.
