We deal with more than ten a fires a week in housing where care is provided so we’re delighted by the news that Barking and Dagenham Council has installed life saving sprinklers in 22 of its high rise blocks and in four of its extra care homes. The investment was partly funded by our sprinkler competition: More: http://www.london-fire.gov.uk/…/AC1B4F18D05A4D82B52979C6465…

Yet again a make up mirror & sunlight has combined to cause a devastating house fire. Three generations of the same family escape unhurt. Timely reminder to get mirrors, bottles and even goldfish bowls out of the sunrays http://www.london-fire.gov.uk/LatestIncidentsContainer_24Au…

  • Annette Munro This is so tragic. That poor family has lost a lifetime of precious memories. Thank goodness they are all ok.

Remember six-year-old Thomas from Honiton in Devon who wrote us a fantastic letter asking whether we used foam at the Kingsway fire earlier this year?
He was invited to an exclusive day out with our firefighters which took place last weekend. They were shown how firefighters train, enjoyed a trip down the Thames on our fire boat and were given a tour of a fire station.
His mum Catherine said after: “The boys loved it, we had a totally amazing and fantastic day.”

A road safety awareness day hosted by the Brigade and the world famous Ace Café on the North Circular Road recently was a roaring success. Popular with the Ton Up boys of the 1950s and the Rockers of the 1960s, the iconic biker venue still hosts numerous motorcycle and car meets. To illustrate the potential consequence of road traffic collisions crews and London Ambulance Service colleagues, simulated vehicle rescues and demonstrated how they release trapped casualties.

We used to ride from the cafe at the Muswell Hill, close to Alexandra Palace to the Ace Cafe and also the Cafe on the Southend Road. ( can't remember the name of that one. ) I was in the merchant navy then. I then joined the LFB in 1960

A huge congratulations to our Fire Cadets who have all successfully ‘passed out’ from their units in recent weeks. Each pass out parade saw the unit perform a drill which included climbing ladders, saving casualties and using hose reels.
The ceremonies were attended by the cadets families, friends, the Commissioner and dignitaries from the local council. Over the last year, as well as gaining life skills they can use in the work place, the fire cadets have also gained a Level...

Brigade staff helped veterans at the VJ Day celebrations this weekend. The volunteers assisted those who were unable to walk the parade route due to a lack of mobility, but wanted to participate with the aid of a wheelchair.
The anniversary paid tribute to those that served in the UK Armed Forces in the Far East, including those who served in the famous 14th Army in Burma that helped secure victory. The event also recognised Prisoners of War and civilian internees from the conflict.
Community Safety Deputy Manager Vanessa Skinner helped veterans at the parade. She described the celebration as “very humbling” and said it was “an honour to give a little back to those who gave up so much."
