Gizmodo- Pranks and Non-Pranks

Things That Are Pranks and Things That Are Not Pranks

Things That Are Pranks and Things That Are Not Pranks
For your consideration...

Things that are pranks:

  • Reprogramming hitchBOT to sound like HAL from Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey
  • Taking hitchBOT to Mount Rushmore and leaving him on Teddy Roosevelt’s moustache
  • Making hitchBOT a real boy through magic and/or sorcery
  • Auditioning hitchBOT for the lead role in a buddy comedy opposite David Spade

Things that are not pranks:

    • Once they abandoned it on a street it became fodder for whomever came across its path, good or bad. Im surprised it lasted as long as it did, but I’m thinking it had much better PR and marketing elsewhere, I never heard about it until the last few days.

I would generalize to say that the effects of a prank are, by definition, temporary and reversible. For instance:
Moving a friends car from one parking space to another so they think they are crazy - Classic prank.
        Driving a friend’s car off a cliff - Not a Prank.

        etc.
        • I don't know why, but the minor vandalism on the glove just got me in the feels. All the rides he's taken, all the people he's met, all the colorful characters who left a signature story on his hands, lost.... like tears in rain.

Fantastic, not a prank. Now let’s all put this to bed and do something important. A plastic tub with a smiley face on it has taken far too much of the world’s attention.
            • New Uses of “Pranked”:
              • I just pranked your car! I had it towed and scrapped LOLZ!
              • I just pranked your house in gasoline and set it on fire! BURN!
              • I’ve chained you to a wall that’s filling with poison gas. The only way out is to saw off your foot. YOU GOT PRANKED, SON!
