The Atlantic- Pictures of Norwegian Terrorist/Extremist Attacks with Reportage

Tragedy in Norway

Last Friday in central Oslo, Norway, a massive explosion ripped through government buildings and sent debris flying through the streets, killing eight people and wounding 15. Some 90 minutes later, Anders Behring Breivik, the man accused of building and detonating that bomb, boarded a ferry to a small island that was hosting a Labour Party youth camp. Breivik, reportedly dressed as a policeman, lured the young campers close and opened fire. The shooting spree went on for more than an hour. By the time police finally arrived and arrested Breivik, at least 68 of the campers had been killed. Norway spent the weekend in mourning, and the country will face more difficulty in the weeks ahead as funerals and criminal proceedings take place. Collected below are a few images of these tragic events in Norway.
