Česká spořitelna opening social bank

New service will be aimed at people on fringes of society
Czech bank Česká spořitelna will launch a new “social bank” for those on the fringes of society later this year. Klára Gajdušková, chairman of the board of directors of the Česká spořitelna Foundation, will head the project.
“The social bank essentially means that we are getting back to our roots: a bank for people for whom banking and advisory services are not accessible, which means people on the verge of poverty and organizations that take care of them and help them,” said Pavel Kysilka, chairman of the board of directors for Česká spořitelna, in a press release.
This new bank will be for those who otherwise would not have access to traditional banking and advisory services, including the homeless and other groups who experience prejudice and discrimination. Česká spořitelna said it believes this is a logical step forward for them, as they have assisted those on the fringes of society through socially beneficial activities for many years.
Because this bank is the first of its kind in the Czech Republic, Gajdušková is looking at similar programs in other nations for guidance.
“We are obtaining all of our information and experience from abroad and are combining it with our ideal concept of what a social bank could and should look like,” she said in a press release. “I enjoy new challenges, and our social bank is undoubtedly that. It will not be a piece of cake, as it is a unique project, unprecedented in the Czech Republic.”
Česká spořitelna said Gajdušková is the right person to head the new social bank because she has led other social projects in the past and overseen the socially responsible activities of the bank.
Gajdušková also has plenty of experience in communications; she worked as an editor at news agencies including Thomson Reuters before joining Česká spořitelna.
