Yesterday we shared a story about a man being punished for caring too much. Chief Mannix, a married loving father, got slapped with a 50 day penalty for also loving his job too much. He was a critic of lowering standards and stood up for everyone who felt the same way but couldn't have a voice. Now, for his efforts, he and his family must suffer. Not only did he stand up for his co-workers, but he also stood up for all New Yorkers and their future safety. He was a glimmer of ...

Interesting moment in NYC history: 70 years ago today, a B-25 bomber traveling in dense fog, struck the Empire State Building on the 79th floor. Betty Lou Oliver was working on the 80th floor and survived the impact suffering burns and other injuries. EMS workers treated her and attempted to remove her via the elevator from the 75th floor when the weakened elevator cables snapped. The thousands of feet of cable coiled at the base of the shaft. That and rapid air compression are believed to cushion the free fall of Betty's elevator ride and... she survived! A feat that sits in the Guiness Book of Records.

In 1 day, $10,000 was raised. This past week, reprimand came down on a respected Chief who stood up against the reducing standards agenda. He believed that the Fire Department he loved should be kept to hiring the best of the best regardless of race, sex, religion, ect. Because of mistakes in his mission, he and his family must suffer a 50 day penalty. He was the voice of his co-workers and the voice of all New Yorkers that may ever need the assistance of the Fire Department. Click the link attached, any and all donations are going directly to the Chief and his family so his wife and kids don't have to suffer from reprocussions of his kind heart and best intentions.
