Our crews do a lot of work in the community and recently Hounslow firefighters attended the borough’s Junior Citizens workshops where they spoke to children from local primary schools about fire safety.

  • Val Newman Shame you picked the Hounslow scheme to illustrate the FB's involvement - the Wandsworth Scheme (ROSPA approved) was one of the first and is held using proper scenarios where the importance of the message becomes far more realistic than in a tent -

Earlier today our uniformed and support staff across the Brigade held a minute’s silence to remember those who lost their lives in the Tunisia attack.

Congratulations and a huge well done to Chelsea Blue Watch who have raised over £2,200 for the Emily Ash Trust – a charity for children suffering from cancer and leukaemia. 
The watch organised two charity challenges as part of their fundraising efforts. 
The first task was a four mile fire engine pull from Chelsea fire station to Knightsbridge and as if that wasn’t difficult enough, the following week the watch completed a 7km Mud Challenge assault course.

Meet Scruffy. He was rescued by West Norwood White Watch early this morning after he became stuck in the mud at Crystal Palace Park whilst on a walk. 
Fortunately he was uninjured, but before he set off home he was treated to a quick bucket bath!

Last night over 70 firefighters battled through the heat to tackle a large workshop fire in Leytonstone.
The fire affected two car workshops under railway arches that contained around 15 cars, a breakers yard and a neighbouring garden.
Four gas cylinders were also involved in the blaze and due to the risk from the cylinders, 100 people were evacuated from nearby roads as a precaution. Ten fire engines attended the incident.

We are taking part in a major training exercise in London between Tuesday 30 June and Wednesday 1 July. 
We test Contingency Plans and the co-ordination of the response to a Major Incident on a regular basis. This exercise is not in response to any specific threat.
The exercise will not affect our day-to-day work and emergency service response, this will continue as normal.

Crews from Holloway fire station delivered the first of four community engagement events in partnership with the Emirates Hub Team, who work as part of the Arsenal in the Community project. Twelve young people aged between 10 and 13-years-old from local Islington and Camden estates enjoyed a four hour session experiencing life as a London firefighter.

A warehouse in West London is as close as they’ll get to Hollywood, but Victoria Metz and Richard Binder had starring roles in short films about their working lives that will be broadcast later this year on CBS Reality UK (Sky 146, Virgin 148, Freesat 135, Freeview 66, TalkTalk 484). The shoot involved professional make-up, a huge film crew and free catering, although Victoria was disappointed there was no Winnebago to relax in between takes. Both showed they could, to use film-speak, ‘take direction’ and walk around ‘on camera’ without falling over, so they clearly have potential. The films will feature their anecdotes and reflections about firefighting and in Richard’s case, working for UK ISAR in Nepal.
