The United States won in Vancouver Sunday, July 5th their third FIFA Women's World after those of 1991 and 1999 by crushing Japan 5-2, thanks to an outstanding game of their number 10 Carli Lloyd, author of a hat-trick.
Ramp-up throughout the tournament, the Americans are now world champions and Olympic champions. They also took their revenge on the Japanese, who were deprived of the title in 2011 by defeating Germany on penalties in the final goal. Sunday in Vancouver, there has been the whole time but the final show has actually lasted a quarter of an hour. The time for Americans unleashed, led by their captain Carli Lloyd who played the game of a lifetime, to take everything in their path.
Masterpiece of 50 meters
After five minutes, the Japanese were led 2-0 when they had not yet set foot in the Hope Solo penalty area. Both goals were signed Lloyd, each time on set pieces (3rd and 5th). At the 14th minute, Holiday marked the third goal with a beautiful volley wandering on a new Japanese defense.
And the masterpiece came at the 16th minute when Lloyd, again, mistaken Kaihori a lob from 50 meters! The famous goal Pele did not score in 1970 against Czechoslovakia. On 18 minutes, Lloyd has a head next door and there was like a moment of stupor in Vancouver BC Stadium grandstands as the No. 10 US seemed absolutely walking on water.
4-0 after less than 20 minutes, that could do the Japanese? Coming together in a circle after each goal conceded, reorganize a shipwrecked defense with the release of the unfortunate Iwashimizu, taken on the first three goals, and above score. The goal by Ogimi to the 27th, the first conceded by US since the first game of the tournament, has given new breath of life to the Nadeshiko and the final, played in front of over 53,000 spectators.
Wambach finally world champion
And that of the 52 th minute, scored by Johnston against-his-camp could suggest that the Americans were in danger. But it did not last more than two minutes, Heath immediately restoring the three-goal players Jill Ellis (5-2, 54th).
The suite was balanced and showed that Japan was far better than his cataclysmic first quarter hour. The scenario of the match and Japanese weaknesses should not obscure the quality of the course of American, the spicier chicken outlets and tombeuses Germany European champion in the semifinals and Japan, the defending champion World final. As for Abby Wambach, legend of the discipline came into play at the end of a quarter and has finally achieved his dream: it is world champion.
