FDNY: Cause of Fatal East Flatbush Fire Accidental

TO SEE VIDEO;

The FDNY says a deadly early morning fire in Brooklyn was accidental.
According to the FDNY, the fire was electrical "in the area of extension cords and power strips."
It broke out around 1:45 a.m. Monday in a building on Nostrand Avenue in East Flatbush.
Tony Celestin, 54, jumped from a third-floor window to escape the flames.
Celestin landed on a box spring left on the sidewalk. He was rushed to Staten Island University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A total of five people were injured in the fire.
Relatives and friends of Celestin said he died trying to save others from the fire, which ravaged the apartment he shared with a roommate, forcing both of them to jump for their lives.
"I was sleeping, he tell me, 'Fire, fire, fire,' and I see fire, and I jumped," said fire victim Jean-B Maurice, who was released from the hospital Monday. He landed on the awning of a restaurant next door after he jumped.
Celestin leaves behind three children.
"He was the first one awake to alert everyone in the house, and he woke up his friend. His friend, I believe, jumped out the window, and my dad just leaped, and one thing led to another," said Tony Celestin Jr., the victim's son. "I consider my dad a big-time hero."
There was a fire in the same apartment last November that family members say was also electrical in nature. They are concerned that the two fires are related.
