Chelpa Ferro Sound Installation Opens at CCBB in Rio de Janeiro
Featuring live performances, sculptures and exhibitions by the multimedia collective, Chelpa Ferro, the "Sonorama" exposition will open this week at Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil Rio de Janeiro (CCBB).

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Beginning Wednesday, June 17th and running through Monday, July 13th, the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB) Rio de Janeiro will host the Brazilian multimedia collective Chelpa Ferro’s “Sonorama” exposition. Presented by the Ministério da Cultura and Banco do Brasil Seguridade, the exposition will include live performances of the group’s works that mix electronic and acoustic sounds with sculptures, digital visuals and projections.

Consisting of Luiz Zerbini, Barrão and Sergio Mekler, Chelpa Ferro formed in 1995. In the little over two decades that followed they became well known and respected in the art and music worlds and beyond for their impromptu acoustic performances which include everyday objects made into instruments, and projections of abstract videos during shows.
The upcoming exposition will feature the group performing in a space located on the second floor of the CCBB. Inspired by “Sympathy for the Devil,” Jean-Luc Godard’s 1968 documentary about the Rolling Stones, the exposition space will be made to look like a recording studio with egg-carton soundproofing foam and other specially crafted room elements.
The exposition will be the first of the Prêmio CCBB Contemporâneo (CCBB’s Contemporary Award) series. From 1,823 submitted projects, ten were chosen to participate in the first edition of the series this year.
