3 Injured When Manholes Explode in Bronx: FDNY

At least two manhole covers exploded in the Bronx Friday evening, one of them hitting a young girl in the arm as she was riding her bicycle, according to witnesses.
The FDNY said it responded to a report of a manhole explosion in front of Park Avenue and East 188th Street in Fordham at about 8:30 p.m.
Witnesses on the scene there were two manhole covers that exploded about 15 minutes apart, and saw flames coming from them. Others reported hearing three to four explosions.
They said a girl was hit by one of the manhole covers.
A man who only gave his first name as Kevin was inside a nearby store and described hearing a big boom, and said his first thought was to run to safety.
The FDNY said three people were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital with minor injuries.
Con Edison is investigating. A cause of the explosions wasn't immediately clear.
