Berlin - German Economics Minister Sigmar Gabriel (SPD) has contradicted reports of an off its controversial levy on old coal-fired plants.PreviousNext
"The carbon tax is not of the table.The talks are continuing, "said Gabriel spokesperson.The ARD had earlier reported, citing government sources, Gabriel gave up the plan.Instead, several coal-fired plants should transferred with a power output of around 2.7 gigawatts in a reserve capacity and the operators concerned are compensated financially.The carbon tax should serve as planned by the federal government to reduce the German CO2 emissions by 2020 by 40 percent.
