The Berlin City Palace then and now
Since summer 2012, the castle square is a giant construction site. 100,000 cubic meters of concrete and 20,000 tons of steel have since been built. We have matched the construction progress with historic pictures.
So the Schlossplatz has changed
35 meters high, 184 meters long and 117 meters wide: The new City Palace is taking shape - even as a shell, but already in historical dimensions.
A new lock is created
A major Berlin project, which is an exception in the schedule: Exactly two years did it take from the groundbreaking to topping.
Finally, a dome
Lange was unclear whether the castle gets a dome. But an anonymous donor saved 2013 projects. Now a dome structure crowns the building shell.
The Lustgarten is complete again
MOVE
Even the castle is a bare concrete torso. But at least the Lustgarten has its old boundary again. By 2019 to the facade look like then.
Interior completely different
While the exterior facades, are the same except for the east side, the old City Palace, created in the interior completely new parts of the building - as the passage.
The south side of the castle

The south facade is not created after historical model, the Palace Square in front of the moment. But many want the Neptune Fountain back there.
Panoramic view to the east
The east wing will be recognized as the only inside and outside the new creation. Huge windows offer a magnificent view.
The new historical center

Already a gap at the end of the street is closed Unter den Linden with the concrete castle. By 2019, the 28 meter high Humboldt-Box is to disappear - when everything is ready.
Background
In June 1993, a framework with painted Plan made the spatial dimensions of the City Palace clear of reconstruction was still an illusion. Now - exactly 22 years later - is the shell. Under the name of Humboldt Forum, the reconstructed palace of 2019 to be an arts and cultural center.
