Middle east - Hundreds protest Israeli wedding of 'Jew with Muslim'

@Sob In the world there are over 1.6 million Muslims, which is 23% of the earth's population. Muslims are found in almost every county throughout the world, including sizeable immigrant populations in Europe and North America. While some Muslim countries are highly conservative and follow a strict interpretation of Islamic law (sharia), most countries with a Muslim majority do not follow sharia in full. Full sharia, applied also to criminal law, is followed only in some countries with a Muslim majority i.e. Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sudan and Mauritania. Even in many of these countries it is opposed by a sizeable segment of the population. Therefore your assertion that "most" Muslims support death for conversion is not supported by evidence. Making such generalizations runs the risk of creating or supporting stereotypes. Granted some Muslims hold extremist perspectives but the same can be said of other Abrahamic religions, Christianity and Judaism.

If the police have evidence that this man was involved with Jihadist groups then they need to share that evidence. Otherwise they should shut up and let this man do his job.

France - French far-right press ‘incites hatred’ in attack on Muslim minister

French far right operates in the looney zone so this isn't surprising. People in that mindset see the world in terms of "us" and "them." Just the fact that Ms. Vallaud-Belkacem is from an Arab, Muslim, North African background makes her suspect. Unfortunately some in France have succumbed to fears, biases and bigotry and so they will vote for right wing candidates who make them feel secure and proud of their racial background. This isn't something unique to France but what is unique is that the Republic has the highest level of intolerance when it comes to race, ethnicity and religion as measured by the World Values Survey. Given those entrenched attitudes what is required is education of French people on their own intolerance. Nowadays given the negative news with terrorism, political turmoil in the Middle East and immigration from Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe; coupled with France's inability to question intolerant attitudes, we have increasing hostile attitudes among a segment of French population against religious and racial minorities.

France - Headscarf at the beach sparks French MEP’s fury

We often believe that the human body is a biological entity but in reality our relationship to our body is created by culture. For some Muslim women covering their head and other parts of their body is how they feel most comfortable. Should we force them due to our own prejudices, irritation and stereotypes to remove clothing which makes them feel comfortable? While Western democracies proclaim freedoms including freedom of religion and conscience, they find themselves under pressure to curtail these freedoms due to fears of minorities and general intolerance of differences. I believe that in France need to extend those freedoms to all citizens including minority Muslims. This is part of a healthy democracy where human rights of all citizens are respected and reasonable accommodation is the norm not the exception.

France - France says 930 citizens or residents involved in jihad

Terrorism and despotism should be sought out and eradicated where-ever possible, with clear-cut, rational, consistent policies. When the present President of the current Fifth Republic was elected, he was amongst the first to signal his intentions to 'beat an early retreat' from the front-line campaign against these two evils in Afghanistan. But Then he was next amongst the first to hastily send in the Rafals to 'ride' a tornado that swept a despot from power nearer home in Libya and replace it with the 'democratic chaos and instability ' that prevails and the despot (Maumar Qadafi) had warned would ensue. Next came an almost impulsive knee-jerk' reaction to send the Rafals and Mirages again into Syria even as a uncoordinated , confused unstable situation was still unfolding there following on the ' tail-winds' of the so-called 'Arab-Spring' that had swept through Tunisia, Libya and Egypt. This trend in the Fifth Republic's Foreign policies has clearly lacked the rationality, clarity and consistency that nostalgically existed during the De Gaulle era inspite of that reactionary hiccup when Gamel Abdul Nasser nationalized' the French-built Suez Canal !

Americas - US opposes Iran's presence at French-hosted conference on Iraq

The US policies in the region appear to be a little contrived , confusing and at times a little contradictory. First there was a clear Statement that failure to arm 'Militants in Syria' was because "it is a phantasy to think there were moderate militants there to be armed". Next when a crises involving the Mosul dam and Armalie cropped up the Iranian Al-Quds Commander was seen in the company of Iraqi Soldiers and Militias recieving the 'benefits' of USA mighty air power and reports in some quarters that there was 'deniable' (by both Americans and Iranians) co-operation between the sides to stem the blitzkrieg of the menace of the al-Baghdadi Caliphate's Black-standard bearing Storm-Troopers. Now the latest is that all the World is invited to join-in forming a 'Coalition' to "degrade and destroy" the Caliphates' battalions , even the Chinese except the Iranians. Exactly what is what. Could it be 'Bibi' has a hand in the latest change of mood as he is definitely prepared to collaborate with Syrians on the latest Golan heights saga?

Middle east - Israel opens criminal probes over Gaza war conduct

That is one of the diferences between a western democracy like Israel and ISIS-HAMAS-AL-KAEDA organiations. In western democracies no one has immunity against the low even if he is prime minister, president etc. In HAMAS-ISIS etc we witnessed "5 minutes trials" in the streets of GAZA and execution on the spot, We saw mass murders of syrian soldiers, journalists behading and more. Where would you prefere to live - under HAMAS ISIS or in Israel, US, EU? Immigrants answer this question daily. They never immigrate to ISIS HAMAS rulled areas.
