Jekyll and Hyde Club

Spooky is as spooky does...what is really going on at this place? I had never heard a word about it before...let's find out

Well, "theme" restaurant with some kind of entertainment going on...reviews I read were evenly split between those who liked it and those who hated it. Unfortunately, it seemed to me the weight of the reviews really was more on the side of those who did not like it.

Apparently there is another location for this club in Greenwich Village or something and that is porbably the one to go to...

Certainly an off beat place to go...caveat emptor!

If you're looking for a restaurant with a different atmosphere J&H is a good one.....you won't be able to talk like in a regular restaurant cause they have performances for you
    Food was ok,excellent service.....
It's too dark inside but overall I think the whole experience is nice and different:)

$20 dollar cheese burger... cheese extra !!!

My mad recollections of this place .... Well, I remember that expensive cheeseburger with no cheese or toppings. I also remember chasing some lunatic in a white lab coat and an albert einstein wig for some friggen mustard. The service was terrible. The place was not that busy but it was around Christmas time so maybe that had something to do with it.

There was some sort of "play" going on when I ate there. The premise was Santa Claus was kidnapped by some martians... I kid you not. And the guy on the mic was screaming his head off over the loud pops and hisses that came off the horrendous sound system.

Even though I had a terrible time I am glad this place is still open for business. Its one of those places that gives you the full New York screw you experience. Its refreshing to be treated like garbage. I live in the suburbs now and my life is a little bit better and a whole lot worse.

On those worse days... I long for the Jekyll and Hyde Club.

Skeleton heads, mummified heads, shrunken heads (this is what happens to people who complain about the food, or so we were told) , hidden rooms, photos on the wall decomposing and recomposing right before your eyes, invisible man disappearing and reappearing, flickering lights... And, FOOD!

I haven't been to a Jeckyll and Hyde restaurant in about 10 years. I'd gone when they had a location on 6th ave and 57th street and I'd gone to the one in the Village (that experience was so lame, I vowed never to return). So, a couple of weeks ago, I'm hangin' with my child and she sees the J&H promotional bus and asks what's it all about. That's how I found out about this 44th street location.

Sooo, I took my daughter here last night as she's a huge Monster High fan and I thought she might like it. She was scared. I told her we could leave. She insisted on staying...as long as I held her. One of the things I remebered about my prior trips to J&H was how fun it was to go to the loo...if you could find it, lol. So, before being seated, I asked if we could do that. We were directed to the giant fireplace. We felt around for the door and once inside, found ourselves in a room filled with old books and paintings with creepy cut-out eyes! At the end of that creepy crevice was the ladies room. As we washed our hands, a face appeared in one of the mirrors. AAACK!! When we tried to leave, we pulled on the handle... But, the door wouldn't open. I'm thinkin' handle = pull. My daughter pushed and we were freed, lol. She was creeped out by this and asked me to go first back down the creepy crevice.

We were seated and after a while, she began to loosen up. Now, it's "the best restaurant in the world!!!!" I think one of the things that relaxed her was this group of kids running around talking to the talking heads on the wall (if you talk to them, they talk back). She'd also asked one of the actors if she knew Draculaura (Monster High). Without missing a beat, the woman responded that she left Transylvania before Draculaura was born, but she was good friends with Dracula. She then added that she'd seen pix of Draculaura on Dracula's Facebook page, lmao. My daughter loved it. This woman was so nice, and making my daughter's day made my day, so I'm a fan. Another entertainer (wearing a fez. I dunno who he was supposed to be) kept joking with my daughter that he was gonna take her M&M's that we'd gotten from M&M's World. She got a kick outta that too. I also got a kick outta seein' another diner jump about 3 feet in the air when one of the wall fixtures in front of her began to move. Heheee!

The food, aside from being overpriced, was...nah, it was just overpriced for what it was. My daughter had the chicken fingers and fries (about $13) and a vanilla shake ($7). I had truffle french fries (pretty good), sliders (meh), and a pina colada. My drink was $12 (!!) and...ugh, please, fire the bartender. That drink was so weak it hurt my feelings. The total bill was just under $65. OH! And, they tack on a $3 per person entertainment fee. I'm not gonna complain about that cos the doorman and the woman from Transylvannia were totally worth it. At one point, I was told by one of the waitstaff that the Elephant Man was in some area in the restaurant, but he didn't come to the room where my daughter and I sat so they lose points for that. The restaurant wasn't even that crowded at the time (mid-afternoon). As we were leaving around 5pm, the place really began to fill up. Anywho, the Elephant Man coulda just come on down and done a walk through or something. *eyeroll* Our waiter...*sigh* All of the actors in NY who'd revel in this environment. And, you hire this guy? O_o

So, because it's now my kid's fave spot and because I LOVE the atmosphere, we'll be back. But, only for dessert or something in the hopes that something on their dessert menu is more impressive than their meal and drink options.

I booked a work function here as I was looking for something different.

Different it is, indeed. We went as a group of about 18. I like the way they don't give away too many details on their website so it really is a surprise when you get there. The decor is really done well. Yes the theatrics were slightly cheesy, but it's a good experience and a good laugh!

The food was really good, I am sure on the pricey side but then again - it is Times Square.

The service was a bit disappointing. As much as our waistresses tried to be on form, the drinks service was a bit slow in the beginning. The food service was pretty good but then they forgot 1 person's meal, and of course it has to be my bosses meal. They had some excuses that it was over cooked so they didn't send it out, but it was obvious they forgot.

We were seated at the back so the area we were in lacked a bit of atmosphere.

Overall it was a pretty average experience. I would recommend to try once but it's not something I would return to.

Loved the environment and the people that worked there were pretty awesome. If you're a scardy-cat like i am dont be. Its not scary at all but it has a dark ambiance which i love.
The food was alright just be careful when youre ordering, its a little pricey. Entertainment is funny and pretty rad. Definitely a place you should visit once. I might want to get a job there. Seems like fun.
