Astor Place area revisited--with reviews

Astor Place is that wonderful juncture down at the base of Fourth Avenue in Manhattan where Greenwich Village becomes the "East Village"--and 8th Street becomes St. Mark's Place.

We have visited this area before, with a lot of emphasis on history and some comments on architecture..

Tonight the blogger is continuing with reviews of stores and institutions in the area to show how people rate their interactions with what are some notable places ( K Mart and the Cooper Union just to start off with).

The Astor Place area is--I have to repeat this because I am always so interested in the developing architecture and sense of place in this City-- a really dynamic place of contrasts between old and new and conservative and innovative architectural styles...

It has one of the first subway stations on the Lexington Avenue IRT line to be rebuilt, thanks in large part to the heiress Mrs. Brooke Astor...and its entrance in the traffic island is a great example of the City resurrecting the past in a spruced up new way..

Well, onward and upward...
