Pooches poisoned in Prospect Park — maybe by eating drug-laced human poop!

This s--- is dope.
Several Brooklyn dogs have fallen seriously sick with narcotics poisoning after visiting Prospect Park in recent weeks — possibly after eating drug-tainted excrement left behind by local druggies, says one Brooklyn dog lover.
“That narcotics users are ‘taking dumps in the park’ that are subsequently munched on by dogs is a pretty easy conclusion to reach, especially since vets are identifying the agent as a narcotic,” said Garry Osgood, the president of park dog-advocacy organization Fido, in a post on the group’s Facebook page warning other mutt owners about the rash of poisonings.
The first dog got doped-up following a visit to the Nethermead section of the park — which is in the middle of the green space between Windsor Terrace and Prospect Lefferts Gardens — on Sept. 18, Osgood said. The pooch became disoriented and incapable of standing up straight so its owner rushed the pet to an area vet, who thankfully saved the pooch and diagnosed its ailment as a possible narcotic poisoning via ingestion.
Then on Oct. 2, another hound was playing in the Nethermead when it suddenly collapsed and began struggling to breathe, said Osgood. Its owner also dashed the pup to a nearby vet and it mercifully lived to bark another day — but only after receiving the same diagnosis: ingesting deadly narcotics.
But drug-laced human feces is just one possible culprit for screwing the pooches’ stomachs, said Osgood — the dogs could have rooted through a trash can and gobbled up some tainted chewing gum or chocolate.
“There’s trash, there are foods that are toxic to dogs, there’s lots of things they could have gotten into,” he said when reached by this paper.
Osgood hopes that recent rain showers have washed away whatever was making the dogs sick — but if there is another case of woozy-pup syndrome, it could point towards a serial offender in Brooklyn’s Backyard, he said.
“If there is a third time this happens, after all the rain we’ve had, then I’d start to get a little worried,” he said. “It means that whatever the source is, it’s persistent — like something leaking, or somebody doing something over and over again.”

READER FEEDBACK

Clemintine Pooter from Park Slope says:
What kind of example are these owners setting for their dogs? Dogs learn from their caregivers - if you eat poop, they eat poop. Try and stop thinking of your own cravings for hot, chocolate poop and think of your dog. Drugs are not good for dogs, nor are they "cool". If you must, let your dog eat fresh poop, from clean b-holes. Save the enviornment - let your dog lick you clean instead of using toilet paper, but don't force them to eat homeless drug poop. That's not good for them.

Why don't we do something about people poop dumping In the park??
It's not called Prospect Toilet!!!
Make them eat some drug filled poop and maybe they'll stop leaving "steamy chocolate presents" for our dogs to "brown nose" with their licky licky tongues?!?!!

I heard of a similar reaction when a dog ate a black locust seed pod

Yes, it's getting dangerous even for dogs now...getting narcotics, and who knows what other yucky associated illnesses, through just being their own doggie selves. Could be time for a house and a yard outside of NYC and these overcrowded parks.
