Seventeen officers and their four-legged partners graduated training today in a ceremony held at the NYPD Police Academy in College Point, Queens. Fifteen of the dogs and officers will be patrolling New York City's subway system as part of the NYPD Transit K9 Team, ensuring the safety of the nearly six million daily riders. NYPD Transit Cops Stop Teen For Failing To Pay Subway Fare, Gun Recovered
NYPD Transit officers arrested a teenager and recovered an illegal handgun Sunday afternoon after they observed the suspect fail to pay subway fare to enter Brooklyn's Kingston Avenue and Throop Avenue station. Police Officers Chauvet and Andrade observed a 17-year-old girl enter the subway system by manipulating the turnstile in such a way that she was able to enter without paying.
The two officers stopped the suspect and asked for identification. The teen was not able to produce identification and was place under arrest. After being placed under arrest an unloaded .32 caliber revolver was recovered from the suspect's bag. The teen was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Theft of Service.

30 Years Later, School Crossing Guard Basilico Stays Connected to Kids
Last month, thousands of New York City students returned to school. Many children are kept safe because of the watchful eyes of NYPD School Crossing Guards who help them as they cross busy intersections on their way to and from school. PROMOTING EMPATHY & DEESCALATION IN CRISIS SITUATIONS
Yesterday NYPD recruits were introduced to CIT: Crisis Intervention Team training.
CIT involves police officers using crisis communication techniques to assist people in crisis situations. The CIT model is based on Listen•Assist•Collaborate and promotes the use of active listening skills and demonstrating empathy in order to gain voluntary compliance. The use of these skills also increases safe outcomes for everyone involved.
CIT training is also currently being given to our patrol officers as well.

The ‪#‎NYPDBlueGoesPink‬ for October
The NYPD is going Pink to show support to breast cancer survivors and to help raise awareness. With over 2.8 million survivors in the United States, many members of the Department have been touched directly, or indirectly, by the disease. From October 1st – October 30th there will be a Department-wide effort for the police and the community to work hand-in-hand to spread the word about breast cancer and early detection.

OFFICER CYCLES IN FULL UNIFORM TO SUPPORT CANCER RESEARCH
Police Officer Justin Charbrut from the 109 Precinct proudly represented the NYPD as he raised money in the Cycle for Survival fundraiser by cycling in his full uniform and gear.
Cycle for Survival is a Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center sponsored cycling event that benefits rare cancer research. Since 2007, Cycle for Survival has raised over $75 million for this noble cause.
