NYPD Transit Cops Stop Teen For Failing To Pay Subway Fare, Gun Recovered
NYPD Transit officers arrested a teenager and recovered an illegal handgun Sunday afternoon after they observed the suspect fail to pay subway fare to enter Brooklyn's Kingston Avenue and Throop Avenue station. Police Officers Chauvet and Andrade observed a 17-year-old girl enter the subway system by manipulating the turnstile in such a way that she was able to enter without paying.
The two officers stopped the suspect and asked for identification. The teen was not able to produce identification and was place under arrest. After being placed under arrest an unloaded .32 caliber revolver was recovered from the suspect's bag. The teen was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Theft of Service.

30 Years Later, School Crossing Guard Basilico Stays Connected to Kids

Many children are kept safe because of the watchful eyes of NYPD School Crossing Guards who help them as they cross busy intersections on their way to and from school. On October 4, 1985, Dorothy Basilico started working as a crossing guard in the Sunnyside area of Queens where she grew up.
Thirty years later, she still lives in the com...

PROMOTING EMPATHY & DEESCALATION IN CRISIS SITUATIONS
Yesterday NYPD recruits were introduced to CIT: Crisis Intervention Team training.
CIT involves police officers using crisis communication techniques to assist people in crisis situations. The CIT model is based on Listen•Assist•Collaborate and promotes the use of active listening skills and demonstrating empathy in order to gain voluntary compliance. The use of these skills also increases safe outcomes for everyone involved.
CIT training is also currently being given to our patrol officers as well.

Shelley Dunham How about teaching the community some respect and lessons on taking responsibility. We all took Psychology and Sociology and ' How to Handle Difficult People, How to De escalate tough Situations, Conflict Management and so on and so on. Mutual respect when entertained by the Officers and the Communities is always the best conflict resolution.

Matthew Hatter The fact that we need facebook posts for an nypd "pat on the back" in regard to crisis intervention training is sad. Keep up the public relations efforts, you certainly have a lot of work to do.
The ‪#‎NYPDBlueGoesPink‬ for October
The NYPD is going Pink to show support to breast cancer survivors and to help raise awareness. With over 2.8 million survivors in the United States, many members of the Department have been touched directly, or indirectly, by the disease. From October 1st – October 30th there will be a Department-wide effort for the police and the community to work hand-in-hand to spread the word about breast cancer and early detection.

Another Burglar Off The Street
Earlier this month, a burglary took place in the basement of a building in the Inwood section of Manhattan. The suspect removed a Dewalt drill worth approximately $200.00, and a circular saw worth approximately $120.00. Because NYPD 34th Police Precinct Police Officers Vanwieren and Bartalsky patrol the area on a regular basis as a part of the NYPD Neighborhood Policing Plan, they quickly responded to the crime scene. Upon arrival, the officers...
