Firefighters at the Naples Fire Department are calling into question staffing levels as the city embarks on a new study with the help of a hired consulting firm.

  • Mike Jackson I don't understand how this happens. The SAFER grant is a progressive percentage grant in which SAFER fully funds the first year and contributes less and less over the years and by the 5th Fort Myers is supposed to be funding the positions fully.

    You have to prove that you can sustain the new employees and prove you have the funding to do it. Someone must have lied about the funding.

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City firefighters made 150 water rescues from about 5 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday morning, Battalion Chief Brian Stanaland said. The rescues included a man trapped inside a floating mobile home and people swept into high water.

  • Matthew Conley The biggest problem is the city had touted to firefighters that "we will protect you, we will cover you" then to not follow through. The city can get mad all it wants, but they made the original agreement for it. And if you can't manage how your funds get invested, you shouldn't have that group invest the funds.

  • Jon Talley Everyone always says "you better hope your house doesn't catch fire" when things like this happen. However, we firefighters have more integrity than that and will still extinguish a fire at the home of someone that wronged us. We will take the higher road.
