It is certainly not the size that counts, but enough concern for some men that medicine is in grasp. Published in the journal BJU International specialized urology, a study provides an overview of what is considered "normal" for the length and girth of the penis.
Work that may be useful to advise men worried about the size of their sex, sometimes to the point of suffering from body dysmorphic disorder (exaggerated fear of bodily default).
To this end, Dr David Veale (King's College London, London) and colleagues have created, using a chosen medical studies analysis, chart pattern (a "nomogram"), which represents the distribution of the size of a penis at rest or erection, including normal variations.
It is a diagram similar to those used to assess the growth curves (weight and height) of the children, with the gaps that remain within the normal.
15500 penis measured
To carry out this work of public utility, British doctors have used twenty trials involving over 15,500 male whose penis was measured by using a standardized procedure for health professionals.
From these graphs, the length of a penis break is on average 9,16 cm and 13,24 cm if it is stretched at rest. Erect, its average length is 13.12 cm. Girth of the penis, again on average, spends 9.31 cm standing at 11.66 cm erect.Furthermore, there is a "fairly low" correlation between the length of the penis in erection and the size of the subject, according to the authors.
The normal range
For Dr. Veale, "these graphics help physicians reassure the vast majority of men the size of their penis is in the normal range."
The majority of men included in this analysis are from Europe and the Middle East. It is therefore impossible to draw conclusions about any differences in penis size as the origins or cultures, the authors note.
The latter, however, admit that the results may not be entirely representative, temperature variations that could influence the results and some who participated in these measures because more satisfied with the size of their gender. The authors therefore suggest to continue and complete this exploration.
The size, a source of anxiety for man
The National Surgical Academy had delivered similar data in October 2011 warning against the penile surgery requests that can be redundant and not without risk. "The feeling of a lack of penis size is for man source of anxiety or psychological suffering, "noted this scholarly institution meet demand" often urgent "corrective surgery. It expressed concerned about "public awareness of the futility and the risk of any surgery on a normal size penis and physiologically active."
In a notice published it indicated in note an "average" resting length of the male organ (9 to 9,5 cm) and erect (12.8 to 14.5 cm) and an average value of its circumference at rest (8.5 9 cm) and erection (10 to 10.5 cm).
