Riders beaten by the wind in Gent-Wevelgem
29/03/2015 • 16:33
29/03/15 - The classic cycle race Gent-Wevelgem is becoming a heroic race due to the weather conditions. There is the continuous rain, but also the hard wind sweeping over the West-Flemish countryside and creating problems for many riders. They are constantly fighting to keep their balance, with some losing this battle from time to time. Like Geraint Thomas, the Weshman who won the E3 Harelbeke last Friday. Thomas was not injured and could come back in the front with the other breakaway riders. (Dutch commentary)

The staircases, platforms and shelters are actually a danger to commuters. The site is over a century old and enjoys a protected status, but Belgian Rail has no cash for refurbishment works, or has at least other priorities.
