[ more ]   FF BURNED AT TN FIRE  http://launch.newsinc.com/share.html?trackingGroup=91663&siteSection=ndn&videoId=28786204  JRN.com Video  Sunday, March 29, 2015    A firefighter was burned while battling a blaze in northern Davidson County.The incident happened Friday night at a trailer fire on Monticello Avenue near the Madison and Goodlettsville area. Officials on the scene said the firefighter fell through a floor and suffered burns to the back of his legs. The person was not taken to an area hospital. The cause of the blaze was not immediately known. No one was inside at the time of the fire. The Fire Marshal has been called to the scene to investigate.         6 FDNY FFs INJURED AT STATEN ISLAND FIRE  Sunday, March 29, 2015   Six firefighters suffered non-life-threatening injuries while battling a two-alarm blaze in Port Richmond late Friday night, an FDNY spokesman said. The fire broke out around 11:18 p.m. on the second floor of 97 Nicholas Avenue, a two-story home located a few blocks from Port Richmond High School, and was extinguished about an hour later at 12:10 a.m., the spokesman said. Neighbor Lori Garcia rushed home from her custodial job at a local health clinic when she heard the news of the fire. When she got home, her house had already been evacuated and the block was shrouded with smoke. "It was bad. The entire inside was burned out," Ms. Garcia said. "The whole street was smoky. You could smell it all the way from Post Avenue." An FDNY spokesman couldn't say whether anyone was inside the home when the fire started, but confirmed that only firefighters suffered injuries. FIRE  Saturday, March 28, 2015    Three firefighters were injured Friday while battling a blaze at an apartment in northwest Harris County.The fire was reported about 5:15 p.m. at a three-story apartment in the 10700 block of Glenora Drive. Officials at the scene triggered a second alarm, authorities said. A lieutenant and a district chief with the Cy-Creek Volunteer Fire Department were on a stairwell in the complex when it collapsed. The lieutenant had a knee injury while the district chief injured his neck and was complaining of respiratory problems. A firefighter with the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department hyper-extended his elbow while he was assisting the two who were injured, officials said. The three injured firefighters were taken to an area hospital, officials said. There were no other reported injuries. Harris County fire marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze. [ more ]         FIREFIGHTER FUNERAL DETAILS-CINCINNATI  Saturday, March 28, 2015    Cincinnati Firefighters IAFF Local 48 have announced funeral arrangements for Firefighter/Fire Apparatus Operator Daryl Gordon. FAO Gordon’s visitation will be Tuesday at the Duke Energy Convention Center from 3 to 8 p.m. Timeline of events The Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Memorial Service will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the convention center and will conclude the visitation. FAO Gordon’s funeral will be Wednesday at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral in Cincinnati at 10 a.m. FAO Gordon will be buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Springdale immediately following the funeral. A celebration of life will be held at the convention center immediately following the burial. He is survived by his wife, Angela, and two daughters, Angelique and Chelsea. A memorial fund has been established at Kemba Credit Union for Gordon. The donations will benefit Gordon's family. But CBS4 News has exclusively obtained and reviewed a just concluded study that some veteran firefighters say raises serious questions about the protection that gear offers when it comes to exposure to elements that could be linked to cancer. “I feel it basically is confirming our fears on cancer in the fire service,” says Keith Tyson, Firefighter Cancer Support Network Director for Florida, who calls the report eye opening. “When you look at these types of pictures you start realizing that it is not protecting us 100 percent. Nothing will protect us one hundred percent. But this is frightening. [ more ]         UPDATE: Residents State Elevators Faulty at LODD Scene  WCPO Video  Friday, March 27, 2015    Daryl Gordon fought through heavy smoke opening doors looking for trapped apartment residents in Madisonville before the sun rose Thursday morning.One of the last doors he opened at Kings Tower building wasn't to an apartment at all. It was to an elevator that was often inoperable, according to residents at the Dahlgren Street complex. Those residents and firefighters said it would not be hard to mistake the elevator for an apartment door, especially in a dark hallway filled with smoke. Gordon stepped into the open elevator shaft and fell five flights. His body became wedged between the elevator car and the shaft, according to reports, frantic mayday calls and residents. [ more ]         5 FDNY FFs HURT AT 3rd ALARM ON THE UPPER EAST SIDE  Friday, March 27, 2015    Authorities say a fire at a 6-story apartment building on the Upper East Side has been brought under control.A fire department spokesman says five firefighters suffered minor injuries in the early morning blaze at East 66th Street and First Avenue. He says the fire started in two apartments on the top floor and spread to the roof. The fire erupted at 1:18 a.m. Friday and was under control at 3:11 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
