FDNY Releases new Smoke Alarm Public Service Announcement![]() FDNY Urges all New Yorkers to have a working smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector in their home.
Following the fire in Brooklyn on March 21 that took the lives of 7 children, the FDNY is urging all New Yorkers to have a working smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector in their home.
Each year, in 75% of all fatal fires, there is no working smoke alarm. An operable smoke alarm cuts your chances of dying in a fire nearly in half. Smoke alarms should be placed on every floor of the home, and always near any place where people sleep.
