Dear EMS1 Subscriber,
Empathy is a powerful and necessary trait of caregivers, but empathy must have limits. Though I can't imagine the pain and despair that leads to suicide, that should not keep me from trying to understand and prevent other suicides. Today we feature an article on the hurt, sorrow, and pity felt after two paramedics die by suicide in a six month period.

We also have several news stories related to agency culture and how culture either undermines or supports a leader's vision. And finally EMS, as mutual aid to police, can be the difference between life and death for an erratically behaving man.
