OH FF INJURED AT APT. FIRE

Sunday, September 7, 2014  A firefighter is injured while battling an apartment fire in Huber Heights.

Officials tell us the firefighter was transported to Miami Valley Hospital in stable condition. They tell us he was burned on the shoulders.

There are multiple jurisdictions on scene, so it is unclear which department the firefighter was with.

Crews with Dayton, Fairborn, Bethel Township, Harrison Township and Huber Heights are all on scene.

Huber Heights officials say three units were burned, and at least two are a complete loss.

They are trying to figure out who resides in the units.


   


 

NO INJURES IN MI AMBULANCE ROLLOVER

Sunday, September 7, 2014  A Pride Care Ambulance was involved in a one-vehicle rollover accident just before two Sunday morning near the 55000 block of M-43 in Van Buren County. Dispatch says no one was injured and no patients were on board at the time.


   


 

4 BOSTON JAKES INJURED IN VACANT WAREHOUSE FIRE

Sunday, September 7, 2014  The Boston Fire Department says four firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion after battling a three-alarm fire in a vacant warehouse Saturday night.

The call came in around 8:30 p.m. For the blaze on River Street in Hyde Park.

The fire department confirmed access to the building was difficult, as commuter rails run directly beside the warehouse. The Amtrak and MBTA lines were down as a result of this.

The "family" connections to 9/11 are shock upon shock. You may know the story of the Langone Brothers-an FDNY FF (Peter) and an NYPD Emergency Service Officer (Tommy)-both also active volunteer Firefighters in Roslyn, on Long Island....both were murdered on 9/11 while operating at the scene. There are so many others with the "family" connection.....



A very unique video that we wanted to share again, was made about John Vigiano Sr. ...who is a retired FDNY Rescue 2 Captain - whose two sons also followed him into public service—John Jr. was an FDNY Firefighter, too, and Joe was an NYPD Emergency Service Officer/Detective. On September 11, 2001, both Vigiano brothers responded to the call from the World Trade Center, and both were murdered while saving others. Here, John Sr. remembers his sons and reflects on coping with his tremendous loss in a very unique video:

FIREFIGHTERS OVERCOME BY BUG BOMB IN NEW JERSEY

Saturday, September 6, 2014  One firefighter required hospital treatment and eight others were hosed down after they were affected by fumes as they entered a nail salon on Ramapo Valley Road in Ho Ho Kus on Friday night.Firefighters from seven municipalities and county emergency workers surrounded the closed Pure Skin Salon and Spa after an insect fumigation triggered a fire alarm, authorities said.

Firefighters arrived at the shortly after 7:30 p.m. and saw what appeared to be a haze inside the building, said borough Councilman Eric Kulmala, who also is an Oakland firefighter. One firefighter was taken to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood for observation, besides the hosing of the eight others affected, he said.

Borough Mayor Linda Schwager said that firefighters who entered the building had been overcome by the fumes and that it affected their throats and caused itching.

FF's Injured-Amon. Nitrate Explosion, Bells & Whistles (The Secret List)

Yesterday-"Down under", a truck carrying ammonium nitrate in outback Queensland exploded with such force that residents more than 30km away thought an earthquake had occurred.

Eight people, including four Firefighters and a police officer, were injured when a truck carrying 50t of ammonium nitrate exploded in outback Queensland.

Firefighters were called to a truck rollover on the Mitchell Highway, about 30km south of Charleville in Queensland’s southwest last night.




As the firefighters arrived, the truck exploded injuring eight people. The civilian truck driver sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Brisbane.

The force of the blast destroyed a bridge, cutting off the main route between Charleville and nearby Wyandra. It also severely damaged two fire trucks at the scene.

CA FF INJURED AT HOUSE FIRE

Saturday, September 6, 2014  A firefighter and a civilian were hospitalized during a two-alarm fire Friday, Sept. 5, in Hesperia.

San Bernardino County firefighters responding about 4:30 p.m. to a report of a fire in a garage in the 9300 block of Maple Avenue found the flames threatening the attached two-story home. A second alarm brought the total number of firefighters on the scene to 33.

Firefighters battled high temperatures, as well as the threat of collapsed electrical lines but were able to hold the flames to the garage and a small portion of the house, a news release said.

A firefighter suffered from exposure to smoke and heat; a civilian suffered an unidentified medical emergency. Both were treated at a hospital, the release said.

Damage to the house was estimated to be at least $50,000, with an estimated $200,000 of saved property. The cause of the fire was under investigation, the release said.

Eight people, including four firefighters and a police officer, were injured when a truck carrying 50t of ammonium nitrate exploded in outback Queensland.

FATAL MILWAUKEE FIRE INJURES FF

Saturday, September 6, 2014  MILWAUKEE - A 46-year-old woman is dead after a fire breaks out in a Milwaukee home. Investigators say Tammy Steele was visiting from Chicago. A firefighter was also hurt battling the flames.

The fire broke out around 4 a.m. Saturday at a home near 2nd and Townsend. Two people escaped the fire, including an elderly man.

The home is a total loss.  Neither of the two smoke detectors in the home were working.

FIREFIGHTER DIES - MEDICAL EMERGENCY - OHIO - LODD

Friday, September 5, 2014   We regret to advise you that Kevin Ollier, 60, a veteran Firefighter Paramedic in Anderson Township (Cincinnati, Ohio area) died in the Line of Duty this morning. Ollier joined the township in February 2001, and served the Anderson Township community as a firefighter/paramedic for the Anderson Township FD. Before coming to Anderson Township, Ollier served as a firefighter/paramedic with the Union Township Fire Department, starting part time in 1990 and working fulltime there starting in 1992. Additionally, he worked at UC Mobile Care from 1994-2012. Besides his job with Anderson Township, Ollier was as a nurse at University Hospital.Ollier, a Union Township resident, was 60 years old. The cause of death is unknown other than a medical emergency.
Funeral information will be announced as it becomes available.
Our condolences to all affected. RIP.

   


 

HOWARD CO FIRE RESCUE RECOGNIZED WITH IAFC SHS SAFETY AWARD

Friday, September 5, 2014  The Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services received an organizational safety award from the International Association of Fire Chiefs for their internal safety measures, the department announced this week.

The award, called the Billy Goldfeder Fire Service Organizational Safety Award, was presented to the department in Dallas, Texas last month.

“We are extremely honored to receive this award as it recognizes our ongoing commitment to ensure that the brave women and men of our Department of Fire and Rescue Services are able to effectively and safely perform their jobs,” said Howard County Executive Ken Ulman in a statement. “In Howard County, we are continuously striving to lead the way and be the best in all that we do. Thank you to the International Association of Fire Chiefs for taking the time to recognize our commitment to safety, health and wellness.”

2 FFs INJURED AT LONG ISLAND HOUSE FIRE

Friday, September 5, 2014  Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a kitchen fire in New Hyde Park that sent two firefighters to the hospital with minor injuries Friday morning.

The fire, reported at 7:12 a.m., damaged the kitchen and a bathroom at the home on Lakeville Road, Nassau County Assistant Chief Fire Marshal Michael F. Uttaro said.

Officials said that volunteers from New Hyde Park, Garden City Park, Mineola, Manhasset-Lakeville and West Hempstead battled the fire. The two injured firefighters, both from New Hyde Park, had heat exhaustion, officials said.


   


 

FIRE TRAINING BUILDING IN IL ACCIDENTALLY BURNS DOWN

Friday, September 5, 2014  Firefighters training at the old Lake County Forest Preserve headquarters in Libertyville Thursday morning had to return that afternoon to battle a full-scale blaze.

Multiple fire departments came to the 6,000-square-foot building to set fires and practice putting them out in the morning, according to Libertyville Fire Chief Rich Carani. Once training exercises were over, the building was unattended for some time before they discovered it was seriously on fire around 2 p.m., he said.

1 FF INJURED IN NY HOUSE FIRE CEILING COLLAPSE

Friday, September 5, 2014  A firefighter was injured and a family of six was forced to the street Thursday after a three-alarm fire scorched the second floor of its home.

The fire was called in at 11:07 a.m. at 34 Jarrold St. By the time firefighters arrived, a grandmother and two small children were able to escape unscathed, according to Kingston Deputy Fire Chief Donald Allen.

The rest of the family wasn't home.

Firefighters were able to douse the flames quickly, though there was extensive fire and smoke damage upstairs and water and smoke damage downstairs.

But while one firefighter was inside the home battling the flames, part of a ceiling collapsed on his head, Allen said. He was wearing a helmet but complained about head and neck pain. He was treated at the scene and taken to the Broadway Campus of HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley.
