Firefighters from Engine 37 – including Capt. Dan O’Sullivan, and Firefighters Ralph Costello, George Gerrish and Spencer Presume – rescued a blind man who fell onto the subway tracks in Harlem on Dec. 17. When firefighters arrived on the scene at around 9:30 a.m., they found the man on the tracks, two cars in below a train at 125th Street. Since the man was not pinned by the train, Firefighters Costello and Presume jumped onto the tracks to move him to a backboard. They said he was semi-coherent, giving his name and asking about his service dog (who also was safe), but saying little else. The man had a laceration to the head. EMS members transported him to St. Luke’s Hospital in stable condition. “This must have been a lucky day for him,” Capt. O’Sullivan said. “We’re just happy he’s ok.”
