NYC has no dearth of French restaurants, that's for sure, but it seems to me there are fewer than there used to be while the number of Asian restaurants has shot way up..
Well, let's get the drift here--all excellent, except for one real sour apple, who, again, I won't cite but just let you know this guy thinks this place is worse than McDonald's ...(!!)

Review from Anon A.
Manhattan, NYI hadn't been in a while, and I hadn't even realized that Serge moved from his cozy Murray Hill location. Much of what I loved about Serge Bistro for years is still there. First and foremost is Serge himself. He makes you feel so welcome, like being invited into a favorite host's home. The service is tops here. Our server, Florabelle (forgive me if I've mangled your name!), was terrific too. Attentive, efficient, knowledgeable, and charming.
The food was as good as ever. The menu is limited, but what's good here is very good. It's not inventive cuisine. Serge is all about familiar dishes prepared well. When I'm craving comfort, I want dinner at Serge. We had the pate, served with salad greens and cornichon, and of course the warm bread basket and sweet butter. There's something so simple and inviting about a basket of warm crusty bread! My friend had the goat cheese salad that she said was excellent. I wish I had tried some, it did look wonderful. We had the coq au vin and the grilled striped bass. Both perfectly prepared. The fish is served with a yummy disc of potato and vegetables. We finished with the lemon tart that was also delicious, such a warm, buttery, perfect crust.
My only disappointment is the new décor, it's just too "new." I used to look forward to the old ambience as much as the food and Serge himself. His collection of Sonya Sklaroff's urban landscape paintings were the centerpiece of the old dining room, and I miss seeing them. It's great that Serge supports up-and-coming artists, but I'm not a fan of the current display. Please, Serge, show off your Sklaroff collection! -

Milpitas, CANice Bistro, great people, best service I have ever have in NYC. Best of all, great food! (Try the frog legs, you won't regret it)
Must come if you come to NYC! -

Sarasota, FLA note from a casual acquaintance urged us to try this place, open in its present location for eight months -- because she wants to be sure it remains here. We now understand why. Food was great, host is genuinely anxious to please -- and it is 30 steps from back door to our building. We had mussels in tomato sauce as a shared appetizer, calves' liver ("best I've ever eaten"), grilled Atlantic salmon on fresh veggies ... and, apologies to South Beach, a strawberry Napoleon. All delicious. We will return yet this visit and I will take Xiaolong's reco and try the frogs legs. -

Manhattan, NYI went to this restaurant with my boyfriend. My boyfriend is a french so we are pretty picky for the food though.
I think the food and wine selections are very good and the service is friendly and prompt . We do love this restaurant haha. Also, the chef ,Serge, served the food for us and explain what it is, it makes me feel so special.
Definitely would go back. -

Manhattan, NYWe had noticed with interest this new French bistro in our neighborhood. Tonight was my husband's birthday and I neglected to make reservations. We were lucky to snare a table at Serge Bistro. I enjoyed a wonderful crab cake with field greens appetizer. my son and spouse enjoyed the French onion soup. My spicy shrimp entree was delicately flavored and quite delicious. Where they fell short was on the hanger steak that birthday boy hubby and son ordered. The consensus was that the meat was tough and that the red wine sauce was missing. The bread they serve is home made and delicious. I would go again but recommend avoiding the steak dishes until they get a better handle on this. -

Manhattan, NYThis was the best Valentines dinner ever and i will remember it for the rest of my life. Last night my boyfriend of 4 years proposed ...the restaurant staff were all in on it and made my night so special. The food is amazing and I truly feel like I am in France every time i dine there. Thank you Serge Bistro for a great night.
