It is hard to live in NYC without being touched by Macy's in some way, even if you avoid shopping there.
You will probably end up knowing people who either work or have worked at Macy's ( I can think of three or four) or, in my case too, a worker for the City's Consumer Affairs Department with a definite tendency to lose it when discussing Macy's because they "cheated " with their sales and nothing could be done about it the way the law was ( about four weeks before a big sale, Macy's would bump up all the prices on all the items that were going to be on sale by at least 20%. Then when the sale time came, Macy's would be advertising "30 to 50% off" on prices that had already been inflated.)..
