In the recent movie of "The Great Gatsby," the rich Yalie Tom Buchanan bullies narrator Nick Carraway into going with him to an assignation with his mistress Myrtle and her friends-- telling the ever suffering wife Daisy, "We're going to the Yale Club."
Brooks threatened to introduce some "Gatsby" Yalie influence clothes, and they have...not as bad as I had feared.
Back in 1974, when they had the Redford-Farrow "Gatsby" the tie-in was with Ralph Lauren's
"Gatsby Look." Not really the thing for free wheeling long haired 1974, it just did OK but that was all...the other garment makers who did knock offs screamed to high heaven when their stuff did not move at all. That's show business for you...and the rag trade and Yale as well.
