What not to do to an old townhouse

Well, I cannot say this house looks really bad the way they redid it, but why does it have to stand out like a sore thumb on a block that is all so resolutely 19th century? 

Maybe the old house was in such bad shape that they had to gut it and while they were at it they just chose a new exterior too...
