Life expectancy in Prague is country's highest, lags behind EU average

Prague, Oct 2 (ČTK)  Elderly people over 65 outnumber children in the population of Prague and their number continues to rise annually, according to a report about the health of Praguers issued by the municipal sanitary office.
The people born in Prague have the highest life expectancy of all Czech inhabitants, the report says.
The average age of Praguers rose from 41.7 to 42 years between 2004 and 2013.
In the same period, the number of seniors rose by more than 41,000, from 184,000 in 2004 to 225,000 in 2013, when they made up 18 percent of the city's population of about 1.2 million.
In 2013, there were 128 seniors per every 100 children under 14 in Prague.
The seniors outnumbered children most strikingly in the central districts, while their prevalence was milder in the districts on the margin of Prague.
In 2013, the life expectancy of people born in Prague was over 82 years for women and over 77 years for men.
The Prague population "lags" two years behind the EU average in this respect, the report says.
