Advanced Psychoanalyst's Toolkit:
Learn how trauma therapies and mindfulness can deepen psychoanalytic practice.
This program is for psychoanalytic psychotherapists and analysts who want to learn useful and safe techniques to increase their abilities to work with trauma. Our faculty will introduce students both didactically and experientially to Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, Coherence Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Mindfulness so that they may be able to thoughtfully integrate these techniques into their current psychoanalytic practices.
This course takes place Friday afternoons beginning October 2nd, 2015

Gregory Carson, LCSW will be teaching the six-week EMDR and Coherence Therapy module. Mr. Carson is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and a Certified Therapist in EMDR. He is a graduate of the Somatic Experiencing Institute's 3-year training program and a graduate of the Eastern Group Psychotherapy Society’s 1-year training program. Mr. Carson has trained in Coherence Therapy and is in regular consultation with its creator, Bruce Ecker, and he recently completed his 2nd year of a 3-year training in Internal Family Systems conducted by the Center for Self Leadership. He sits on the Executive Committee of the National Institute for the Psychotherapies Training Institute’s Integrative Trauma Treatment Program where he has served as faculty and currently serves as Coordinator of both the program’s Clinical Affiliates and its Saturday Clinical Seminar. Mr. Carson maintains a private practice with offices in the Union Square area of Manhattan and in Montclair, New Jersey where he offers individual, couple, and group therapy, as well as individual & group consultation.
Jennifer Egert, PhD will be teaching the eight-week Mindfulnessmodule. Dr. Egert is a clinical psychologist with a background in health psychology and palliative care. She specializes in mindfulness based clinical approaches to managing medical and emotional life challenges. Dr. Egert completed teacher training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Worcester Medical Center and studied mindfulness based approaches to psychotherapy with a number of teachers including Drs. Ron Siegel, Dennis Tirch and Kelly Wilson. She has been engaged in her own contemplative practice and study since 2002. She maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Manhattan, focused on mindfulness based psychotherapeutic interventions. For further information, please see her website at: www.jenniferegert.com.
Michelle Lepak, LCSW will be teaching the six-week Internal Family Systems module. With 25 years experience, Ms. Lepak integrates trauma models with each other, and into analytic work. She trained in NIP’s 4 year adult analytic program. She is an IFS therapist, a level 2 EMDR therapist, an Advanced level Somatic Experiencing therapist, a level 1 AEDP therapist, and trained in Structural Family Therapy at Minuchin’s Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic. She has presented her work “Integrating IFS and EMDR” at NIP. Ms. Lepak practices in Montclair, New Jersey.
Shelly Rosen, LCSW will be teaching the six-week Somatic Experiencing module. Ms. Rosen is a psychotherapist with 30 years clinical experience. She maintains a private practice in Manhattan and offers individual and group consultation. She is trained in Relational/Interpersonal Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Family Therapy and Internal Family Systems. She is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, an EMDRIA Approved EMDR consultant, and a Certified EMDR therapist. Ms. Rosen is a member of the Executive Committee at the ICP Trauma Studies Program where she teaches and supervises. Her most recent publication is Cults: A Natural Disaster - Looking at Cult Involvement Through a Trauma Lens. She is interested in the intersections and relationships between psychoanalysis, trauma therapies and neurobiology.
Fee: $1,500 for 27-week course.
This class is only open to students who have completed, at least, a 3-year training program in psychoanalytic therapy.
