STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Dongan Hills man was pulled from the second-floor window of his home after emergency personnel discovered he was trapped inside Saturday evening, an FDNY spokesman said.
EMS was conducting a welfare check after the senior citizen had not been seen in a day, and when they got to the Raritan Avenue house they realized the man was a hoarder and called the FDNY to get him out, the spokesman said.
Firefighters were unable to get up the stairs because it was blocked with trash and personal items, so they rescued the man out the window.
According to the FDNY, the patient was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive, but his exact condition is unknown.
The man was apparently stuck between his bed and the wall, a few neighbors said.
Approximately a dozen emergency vehicles, including Rescue 5 and Ladder 85, responded to the scene.
