Music in Colonels Row, a Soldiers Camp at Fort Jay and the Arrival of Citi Bike!
PROGRAMS THIS WEEK:

CIVIL WAR WEEKEND
Sat Aug 8- Sun Aug 9, 10:30AM- 5PM
Meet Union soldiers, Confederate prisoners, officers' wives and more at Castle Williams, the Soldiers Camp and Fort Jay. Watch cannon and small arms demonstrations, and listen to balladeer Linda Russell and Ranger Joe compare military and civilian music at the time of the Civil War.
BROOKLYN MUSIC FESTIVAL
Sat Aug 8, 11AM- 5PM
The Brooklyn Music Festival is designed to celebrate the accomplishments and achievements of New York City’s largest borough. The Brooklyn Music Festival’s bands include Pop, Disco, Funk, Alternative Rock, Country and much more. Free tickets are required (and can be obtained here). Audience members must be 18 years and older to enter the Colonels Row Festival Grounds.

BROOKLYN ARTERY'S MAKE YOUR OWN DOLL WORKSHOP

NEW EXHIBITS:

A.I.R.
Open every Sat & Sun from 12 PM- 6 PM
See new work from A.I.R. fellows in downstairs gallery then head upstairs to see more than 40 small pieces by other A.I.R. artists. This is the final venue of a year-long traveling show that has been shown in Nashville, San Francisco, Princeton and St. Louis.

PICTURE THIS: NEW ORLEANS
Open every Sat & Sun from 11 AM- 5:30 PM
In April 2015, CNN Money commissioned iconic photographer Mary Ellen Mark for the project Picture This: New Orleans. The multimedia project documents New Orleans 10 years after it was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. A month after returning from the trip, Mark passed away in New York. She was 75. These images are her last photographs.

An interactive site-specific dance performance for audiences of all ages. With dance, live music, and out-of-this-world costumes, a cast of kooky characters transform an ordinary house into a whimsical world of curiosities.

ISLAND TREE PROJECT: WORKSHOPS AND EXHIBITION

“Speaking Volumes….and Voids”, an exhibit of sculpture by 15 professional artists, curated by Anne Stanner, explores the nature of volume and void, essential components of sculpture. The work reflects a range of expression interpreting these concepts. Speaking volumes also may convey a larger message.

Workshop I – Upcycling : Exploration, Transformation, Renewal
4 sessions: August 4, 6, 11 and 13 (Tuesdays and Thursdays), 11am – 2pm

Workshop II - Creativity in Wood

ESCAPING TIME: ART FROM US PRISONERS
Open through September 27
Experience a different view of life behind bars with Escaping Time: Art From U.S. Prisons, a unique show of artwork created by inmates. Curated by Anastasia Voron, Director of Exhibitions at Wallplay, the show is a production of the Safe Streets Arts Foundation, which aims to rehabilitate men and women in prison through the use of art.
CITI BIKE ARRIVES ON GOVERNORS ISLAND:
We are thrilled to announce that there is now yet another way to enjoy Governors Island by bike – Citi Bike has arrived! In response to visitor requests, The Trust for Governors Island and the Governors Island Alliance worked with Citi Bike to expand to the Island.

Visitors can bring a Citi Bike over with them on the ferry or pick up one from docking stations located at Soissons Landing (right outside of Building 110) or at Yankee Pier. Read More...
