They're quite strong, but in a fire situation, the horizontal member of the truss can burn through, reducing structural integrity. There is virtually no warning of an impending collapse.
  • Wendy CK I'm very Glad they pulled all the firefighters out! I've been reading about the 1978 NY Waldbaums Fire and the 1988 NJ Hackensack Fire, the lost of life is tragic for firefighter community and their family and friends. Lessons Learned. Never Forget the Firefighters That Lost Their Life.... Thank goodness no one was injured in Eugene, Oregon. I'm sorry for the businesses. Hope they can rebuild or relocate.

I opened the nozzle and sent bowling balls flying. The red was the reflection of one of the red light off the engine.

"Another issue that could occur with the operator, one that could occur with any member of your crew, is a medical or traumatic incident prohibiting operations from starting. Your operator could suffer a medical event or simply trip and break his leg. If this happens, what will you and your crew do to ensure water for fire attack?"
Well, those of you with limited staffing - what will you do? Have you thought it out?
As engine companies stretch and operate hoselines, success is totally dependent on the officer, crew members, and their ability to function as part of a team. Through proper training and operation of...

  • M. Seth Abrams I had an engineer once who took the coupling from a section of 2.5" directly to the eyebrow on a working fire as he was helping establish the water supply from the truck. Although badly gashed and bleeding, he continued to operate the panel and supply water to us working the fire. He didn't inform anyone of the injury until after the fire had been knocked out.
Some of the 3,400 firefighters on the blaze have been here since it started a week ago. The fire, burning in rugged terrain in Lake, Yolo and Colusa counties, is the biggest in the state and has destroyed at least 39 homes.
Wildfire has destroyed numerous buildings and caused thousands to evacuate.

An exterior defensive attack was initiated and maintained throughout the fire suppression efforts. Firefighters made efforts to search the dwelling for occupants but were pushed back outside by high heat, a collapsing floor and failing roof structure."

  • David See All residential structures should be fitted with fire sprinkler systems whether they're huge mansions or small dwellings. Instead homeowners continue to favor green lawns over their loved one's lives.
