Update: FDNY members began leaving the scene at noon.
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A large number of Haz-Mat officials and firefighters have been summoned to a medical office in Annadale.
The incident was reported at AdvantageCare Physicians at 4771 Hylan Blvd at 10:49 a.m., according to an FDNY spokesman.
According to Dr. Vincent Maligno, who was inside the office to take his mother to an appointment, a chemical spilled and patients were evacuated.
Maligno said the fumes were overwhelming.
"I can feel the chemicals in my chest," he said. "We were there as regular patients. We were in the back area, where it was the worst, that's why it was concerning."
Both he and his mother were OK after the episode.
"It was quite an interesting experience," he said.
While the FDNY spokesman could not immediately confirm the circumstances surrounding the incident, he said no patients were taken to the hospital, and three females were treated on the scene after exposure to fumes.
Several FDNY units are on the scene.
