OPINION; Let FDNY Find More Women and Minority FF's, But Keep High Standards

I remember reading the words of some well known black woman entertainer about being in a fire in an office building and thinking
"I don't care about diversity, I want the best FF's up here they can have!"

I am not saying that woman have not been discouraged from the Fire Service in the past by attitudes of many male firefighters.

There was an interesting documentary called " A Good Job" where actor Steve Buscemi recounted his 4 years as a fireman and also later his volunteer work on "the pile" following September 11 ( David Letterman showed the picture of Buscemi on the rig headed down to ground zero in his old gear he had kept in the closet at home-)

"Yeah," Buscemi said of the experience, "Everyone kept saying,
'Who's the old guy.'

It is sort of a longish documentary but it has the testimony of a lot of Firefighters, men and women, white and minority, and if you have never seen it, YOU OUGHT TO.

Maybe right now is not the best time for you to watch it, but make a note of it for you"Must See" list

WATCH- Steve Buscemi “A Good Job: Stories of the FDNY”

In case you missed this great documentary. ” A Good Job: Stories of the FDNY” we are posting it here so you can view on-line.
Steve Buscemi, who was a New York City firefighter himself from 1980 to 1984, and an actor who starred in the 1992 film Reservoir Dogs and the 1998 film Armageddon, produced “A Good Job: Stories of the FDNY” with filmmaker Liz Garbus, and it’s personal to Buscemi in an unobtrusive way.
