While it seemed to me the biggest event in the neighborhood today was the Fair over at the Alfred E. Smith School, where they had the big blow up adventure " Escape from Alcatraz" ( generic picture below, I couldn't get a good long shot)

The kids were loving it, of course, with its extra features such as the Pirates of the Caribbean Part and the Bungee Run
Above: The Bungee Run ( kids get attached to long bungee cord and run on big blow up surface and then get pulled back again--wow, when you see events such as this you remember the energy kids have, especially when they get together to play
The kids were also adding their own fun and games to the day, having races on the big broad sidewalk
I stopped off at Eng 76 Ladder 22 on West 100th Street and FF Rocco answered some questions and let me really get good shots of the gear and rigs and also got a picture of me
The FDNY doesn't let anyone give interviews on tape anymore, the Lt at the Firehouse told me, "people have gotten in trouble for it, etc. so no more of it."
I DID speak to FF Will, who told me he originally became a FF because his brother had become one and it seemed like a good job and he liked the way the hours sounded.
Any regrets about being a Fireman now?
"None whatsoever! Love the job."
He didn't want to be taped though...
(WHAT have people been saying that they are clamping down like this? Oh well, always something in the Big Apple).
Too bad. I was hoping to get more interviews like the one I got with "Mike the Probie" some months ago

Then it was off to Central Park BECAUSE
I have read all this information on the internet about a loop made from recording a babbling brook in Ireland and how it is a big sensation over in Britain now ( people go in and lie down and close their eyes and listen to the brook to de-stress--nothing especially new in this-)
But it reminded me we have our own nice babbling brook and little waterfall over here in Central Park near where I live
I'll bet the little Central Park waterfall is as nice as the one in Ireland
Soothing indeed when you just stand on the little bridge and listen to/watch it...
It is, interestingly, part of the drinking water system ( at least I read that on the internet and if I read that on the internet it must be true LOL)
Noticed a dandelion motif today-- big dandelion sculptures over at school and dandelions popping up in the park now
It's funny, in a City environment a dandelion can pass itself off more as a flower-- the crews in Central Park will not let them flourish long, though
The well funded New York Conservancy really works at maintaining Central Park as the great resource it was meant to be...all entirely man made, too ( that is a well known fact, not just as odd comment I picked up on the web)
Which reminds me of another urban situation: pigeons.
Pigeons are charming in the English countryside but I don't want them on my window sill and outside a/c part and messing all around... noticed they put this mock owl in the courtyard where I live ( Urban Legend says it helps keeps pigeons away).
Well, here is the day's sojourn ( the more I think about it, the more amazed I am by the energy these kids have...I also got some footage of them in the park nearby and on the swings etc).
