Gracie Mansion is the official mayor's residence of NYC
No mayor has lived there for a long time, they all live somewhere else and just use this house for events
The mansion is in Carl Schurz Park on the East River on the Upper East Side
Carl Schurz Park is noted for several things, including the many stone steps that my mother used to roller skate down as a young girl
The Park is at the Eastern End of 86th Street in Manhattan...
Extremely pretty place with two dog runs, one for larger and one for smaller dogs
And the Esplanade overlooking the East River
Not a bad place for a stroll on a sunny Saturday...
On the way, of course, I passed the fabled Second Avenue subway, which when finished will mark something like 50 years of intense efforts to try and get it built
This included building stations many years ago that were then covered up again when they ran out of money
Building the track bed has been a horrendously rocky and expensive endeavor
Each year, more and more billions of dollars accumulate in this pit which may or may not be finished by 2020 or so...running only a third of its original planned length.
But let's not dwell on this (yet another) MTA disaster
Back to the streets of Carnegie Hill and the park and the esplanade etc.
