Manager: Anthony Cunningham (4th season). Titles: Connacht 21 (1999, discontinued), Leinster 1 (2012), All-Ireland 4 (1988). 2015 league: 4th Division 1A; Lost quarter-final to Waterford. Odds and Ends: All-Ireland 12/1; Leinster 5/1.
Bookies say: Leinster runners-up; All-Ireland quarter-finalists. Bookies said in 2014: Leinster semi-finalists; All-Ireland semi-finalists. 2014 championship: Lost Leinster semi-final replay to Kilkenny by 3-19 to 1-17; lost All-Ireland qualifier to Tipperary by 3-25 to 4-19. First outing: Leinster quarter-final v Dublin, May 31st

Prospects

So hard to discern what the plan is or where their level might settle. Since nearly winning the All-Ireland in 2012, the only team they’ve beaten is Laois. Might lose to Dublin and fall at the first qualifier hurdle or could just as feasibly still be in the mix come August. Ought to be able to find some way to use Cathal Mannion’s rise to ease the burden on Joe Canning but we’ve said similar about David Burke and Johnny Glynn in the past.

Key player

Joe Canning turns 27 this year and is still the starting point for all conversations about Galway. Can win the odd game on his own but there’s no future in that. Anthony Cunningham owes him a plan that best uses his gifts.Leinster Hurling Championship - County-by-County Guide
