IMAGE OF ASIA: DAMAGE AND LOSS A MONTH LATER IN NEPAL
05/25/2015
In this photo by Niranjan Shrestha, a man who lost his family members in the deadly earthquake one month ago walks into his damaged house in Kathmandu, Nepal. Two powerful earthquakes on April 25 and May 12 killed nearly 8,700 people and damaged or destroyed thousands of buildings in the Himalayan nation. Hundreds of families are still living in open camps and temporary shelters and many schools remain shut. The coming monsoon season is a concern, and the government has sent geologists to remote villages to assess their risk of landslides before the rains begin in a few weeks.
