Kristoff victorious in Tour of Flanders

Norway's Alexander Kristoff (Team Katusha) has won this year's Tour of Flanders. The Norwegian saw off all competition from at home and abroad winning victory in the sprint against Niki Terpstra of the Netherlands. Belgium's Greg Van Avermaet was third.

Two women police constables are in hospital this morning recovering after a nasty accident in Ieper. The two women were hurrying to attend an incident when their police vehicle careered off the road while attempting to overtake a car.

Tour of Flanders under way

It was shortly after 10AM that riders in this year's Tour of Flanders cycling race set off from Bruges market square. It's the highlight of the calendar of Flemish spring cycling events. Tom Boonen and Fabian Cancellara are not here opening up the race to a whole host of hopefuls.

4/4/15 - Sunday cycling teams will be battling it out in the Tour of Flanders, but on Saturday everybody could have a go at one of the most arduous cycling challenges in the world. Half the field of cycling fans are foreign nationals and for many it's their first taste of Flanders.

Sunday is one of the biggest days in the Flemish cycling calendar as the Tour of Flanders is staged, but on Saturday it's the day of the cycling enthusiasts as cycling fans from at home and abroad race an indentical route.

Ghent launches water tram

The City of Ghent is launching a new water tram service. The new water tram service will run from this weekend till 1 November and stop at six stops in the city: Gravensteen, Korenlei/Graslei, Bijloke, Sint-Pieter's Abbey, Cathedral and Veldstraat.

Sweetie secures first Belgian conviction

4/4/15 – A man from Antwerp Province is the first Belgian to be convicted following an investigation using a virtual creation. Sweetie wasn't a real girl. She was the creation of the children’s rights’ organisation Terre des Hommes and its attempt to combat the sexual exploitation of children using a webcam.

Last Belgian condemned to death held in Brazil

The last Belgian to be condemned to death has been arrested after he escaped three years ago. Detectives in Brazil stopped the man who in 1995 was sentenced to death for the murder of his wife.

Tightrope walkers strip off in the Alps for Paul Smith

An interesting exhibition on the work and inspiration of the English fashion designer Paul Smith is currently underway in Hasselt. A number of scenes from the life of the English fashion designer including his design studio and his office have been recreated. Paul Smith supplied many of the items. The exhibition also sheds light on what inspired Paul's fashion designs over the years and includes paintings and photos that he has taken himself.
